team tractor
Just a quick question . Is it legal to travel with the bolt in the gun ? I've just seen lads joking about on another thread about forgetting it and thought why don't we travel with it in the gun I always chuck mine in my pocket anyway
bluesj
Yes, it's not easy to get the bolt in and out of my semi auto!
Olliesims
I'm not sure if it's illegal but the police don't like it at all, If some one nicks your rifle and it has no bolt to it, it's no use too them, they steal your rifle and they have the bolt, they will be able to sell on the black market / find ammo for it... steve_b_wales
It is legal to travel with the bolt in your rifle, although I carry mine in my pocket.
moorvale55
Yes it is, you have an FAC to say can carry the bits which together make a rifle. Take care if you park up and leave the gun because it is your responsibilty to ensure no other person has access.
henry d
Is it legal to travel with the bolt in the gun ? There is the rub, if you are walking you are travelling, yes? If you are in a car and driving to a shoot on a public road? If you are travelling in a car on a field at night lamping foxes?
apache
My bolts live in my rifles. The only time I take them out is if leaving the rifle in the car. Taking the bolt out unnecessarily risks you losing it, in my case risks mixing them up and they always pick up fluff and chaff from my pocket.... Perfectly legal

Perfectly legal I used to take mine out when putting it in the cabinet, locked in the top part along with ammo
GingerCat
It's quite legal.
team tractor
I always remove mine from the van if I'm not in it and the ammo follows . Just wondered that's all
sonicdmb
You must take reasonable steps to prevent unauthorized use. if you leaving you gun unattended in your motor then removing the bolt fore end etc. Covers your *** if some scroat put your window through. It is not required by law but makes sense a cable lock through the seat frame and trigger guard would do the same. I do not store my bolts out of the rifles, it was mentioned by my new FEO I told him no that if someone got as far as the cabinet then they'd get to both easy enough with the right tools IMO there is too much risk of damage to the bolts. I do remove it if I leave the rifle in the motor but I have a bolt carrier to protect it.
