pigeonblasterian
Not been on one myself for a couple of years. But have managed to help keep them down to a reasonable level. But have enjoyed it when i have been on one.Just walking over muddy fields and having a couple of stone of mud clinging to your boots is fun. Blackpowder
If you are in the walking or beating line always shoot to miss. He who shoots big hare is he who carries big hare, over two or three fields of sticky clay soil - you only do it once. Blackpowder

scolopax
Take a game bag. Any averagely fit fella should be able to carry three or four over a few fields so long as they are in a bag. Let the aged and the infirm cop out of not shooting.

Let the aged and the infirm cop out of not shooting. I've seen many a good grouse keeper struggling with a bag of hares on large, heavy ploughed fields (especially after all the rain we have had this year). It's easy enough if you're on stubbles or grassland but even then you end up being given someone else's as they haven't brought a bag with them. kyska
Personally I'd never use a shotgun on hare, we have a real problem on our farm, every field, between 5 and 20, rifle job IMO.

A lot of the big farms/estates have them in this area because it gets so many cleared up in a day or two.I was taking to a keeper on Sunday and he works on a very large estate they have shot 1450 in two days a couple of years ago. al4x
I've been on some fairly large hare shoots and you can't shoot the numbers at the right time of year easily. Done right they are very effective
