The earth moved for me this afternoon.

Late afternoon I went to walk the dogs in one of my woods. This was a dual excercise including the possibility of shooting a few pigeons coming into roost.

It was very windy indeed and the earliest pigeons to come in were blown all over the place and I couldn't even lay a bead on them. I had been there 30 minutes when a conifer which must have been 90' high blew down just behind me. This was frightening, and looking round I could see the bases of the trees around me swaying and lifting up the tree roots underground.

This was time to beat a hasty retreat especially as I have an appointment with two PW members tomorrow and they would never believe my excuse that I was dead lying under a tree if I failed to turn up.

Had a huge Norwegian Spruce taken down in our garden as during the last storm I could see the ground around it lifting up and down as the tree swayed, it's a scary thing when it could easily have reached mine or any of the neighbours houses.

Glad to know you're safe though, easy to forget in some places windfall is a major killer - on honeymoon in Thailand we went to an island where they dropped every coconut as soon as it formed as so many people got hurt or killed by them
