Charlie_79
Hi everyone, has anyone ever used a magic pecker ? I would normally prefer to use a pecker with a dead bird on it but I only shoot small bags so I just thought this would be something I could chuck straight out there at the start of the day. I know it's pricey but to me it doesn't look too bad, what's other peoples opinions http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/The-Magic-Pecker-Pigeon-Decoy-Separate-head-body-Movement-See-Video-/171233571232 Many thanks Charlie

turbo33
Waste of time and unnecessary faffing around, I fell for it too in desperation Be where the pigeons want to be, use half a dozen real birds on cradles and spend the money on a decent flask

JDog
I suspect that those who use the 'magic pecker' do not use their own magic pecker often enough.
motty
I have never seen the point in using a 'pecker'. Decoys on spring sticks mimic the same motion, meaning you've effectively got every decoy on a stick acting like a 'pecker'.

I think peckers as with anything that adds movement to your pattern will always generate more interest than a static lifeless setup, if It's breezy I would personally use spring sticks, they cost next to nothing and don't require batterys! Jame
If it's a day without a breath of wind then you probably shouldn't be out shooting pigeons! Nooo some of my best bags came on such windless days! You can't beat roasting in a hide shooting over OSR, who needs wind

You can't beat roasting in a hide shooting over OSR, who needs wind I've also shot many good bags when there has been no wind. How strong the wind is, is well down the list of considerations of an average day of decoying.

My 'magic pecker'used to attract birds quite well, but seems to have lost effect as I got older!
cocknee
All the flappers bouncers whirlys or any other gadget you can think of will not help if you are not in the right place. If you spend enough time on reconnaissance and set up in the right spot gadgets are not so necessary I spend far more time looking for pigeons feeding and watching where they are coming and going than actually shooting them. If I get a call to go and shoot somewhere new I will first walk off any pigeons from the field to be shot and the immediate area then will sit and wait for them to return so I can establish the flight lines before setting up, many times I have done this and sat there for a couple of hours and nothing has returned but at least I haven't lugged all my gear across a muddy field for nothing it is then time to look elsewhere or go home. On ground I have shot for many years I can usually get the spot right as flight lines pretty much stay the same year after year.
