leeds chimp
Got some hero A/T tyres on the vitara but after getting stuck last night (and a call to the Farmer to get us) thinking of changing them to something a bit more chunky.... How much MPG and road handling do you lose with that or is it really worth it?

mr baddoo
To answer your question, i had a 300 tdi dico that averaged 30+ mpg with road tires. Switched to heavy duty mud boys and dropped to between 20/25 mpg. That being said you dont play rugby in brogues!!

Blunderbust
I have Yokohama geolanders on my 1600 Grand vitara and i'm only getting 25mpg they are A/Ts and the tread is not that aggressive the handling is really good and they are not noisy I have the same on my Hilux and love them. The handling on the road in wet is great, as stated they are not noisy. I must admit I have been stuck with them on, but it was more my fault and the truck bottomed out. Black Circle do them at a very good price.
leeds chimp
Did bottom out in the end as just could not get any grip and just dug deeper and deeper... Farmer had mud tyres on and was able to back right upto the truck and then pull out not a problem

Dougy
LOL so you got your 4 round spades going well for you. ;-) I had a quick lesson, if you're heading into deep doo doo make sure you can cope, and dont think ghat spinning those spades round any quicker is guaranteed to get you out. I reckon I've dropped 5 mpg but change to toad tyre's in ghe dryer months. I have Hankook mt on my Pickup 30,000 miles and still ok, obviously the treads worn down but still good. Davyo
Got some hero A/T tyres on the vitara but after getting stuck last night (and a call to the Farmer to get us) thinking of changing them to something a bit more chunky.... How much MPG and road handling do you lose with that or is it really worth it? I stuck insa turbo dakars on my Grand Vitara and very rarely have to select low ratio. Dont know if its changed the MPG as it was the 1st thing I did the minute I bought it, brilliant tyre.
army646
I have some fairly heavy duty Hankooks on my 2.8 Pajero and I reckon that I lost at least 5mpg when I put them on. There was also a distinct increase in road noise but it is worth it for the extra grip in the snot.
BrowningDJC
Didn't notice any difference when I put grabber at2's on my truck, would have gone for maxxis buckshot mudders if could of got them in my size, very good on the road for an mt
