First fox with a little PW help

Hello all,

Thought I would share this with you. I have just been handed another farm to cover from my existing permission owner which is great news. I had a txt Thursday from the boss saying the lambs are getting hammered can I sort out a trip out with the lamp. I said, yes no problem how about Friday evening?

Friday was good so I needed to recruit some professional help...a quick txt to SimonPPC and a meeting point was agreed. 9pm at the pub, load up into my 4x4 and pick the bosses nephew up for a detailed running of perimeters and hot spots.

This was some heavy leg work as not all the land was accessible without making a mess of the field. Anyway, around and hour and a half into the trip Simon flashes on some eyes a good 300/400 yards away...we all hit the deck and Simon set up the rifle. Unfortunately there was not a safe shot to be taken, so Simon squeeked the fox up close and I gave it two carts. Certainly connected but failed to make a clean kill. Simon was sure we would flash on the fox in the next field as it had been hit...and sure enough we had eyes again and a huge backstop! The rifle was set up on the fence post and a very accurate chest shot was deployed dropping the fox on the spot. It's was a healthy dog fox taken from the exact field where the lambs had been taken.

Eternally greatful to Simon for his expertise and set up, I have a lot of field craft to learn.

One very happy farmer who has said he will give me £10 for the fox as the vet buys the heads from him. Excellent!

Thanks again SimonPPC,
