Alexbb
I'm thinking of buying my first PC air rifle for shooting, Pigeons, rabbits etc. I really would like a take down rifle as I would like to transport it without frightening the populous whilst on my motorbike. I have been looking at the Edgar Bros XVI which I really like the look of but have had mixed reports on. I would only buy second hand as I am a cheapskate so looking for reliability as well as accuracy. Cheers, Alex
Zetter
Options would be You can pickup some of the FX verminators at about £500 ish at the moment which may be worth a look. I wouldnt personally touch the XVI with a barge pole discontinued pending a redesign for a reason.
FXGladiator
Another one for the FX Verminator. So much lighter than others and super high shot count, in the hundreds. Chris
Twistedsanity
Verminators are good guns but felt a bit cheap and plasticky. The air arms feels well engineered and is light but has a significantly lower shot count than the vermi and I couldn't get on with the cocking mechanism

TDRsniper
AA S410 TDR every time
Alexbb
looked at the FX verminator, looks great although somewhat stumpy... Does that reduce it's range or effectiveness? Will do some research. The AA I looked at but cant seem to find one 2nd hand at anything like a reasonable starter price for someone that has never had an air rifle before. Thanks for all the input guys though, much appreciated. Shame about the XVI as on a purely aesthetic basis it looked very cool(soo shallow). srspower
AA S410 TDR every time That's definitely what I would choose, all the benefits of a s410 with little of the drawback of a take down package. FalconFN
Or just buy a BSA Ultra and remove the moderator, it should fit into a long ruck sack.

A The Verminators are full power Alex the size hides a massive shot count as well as there is a large air cylinder making up the Butt. They need a moderator due to the short barrel length as they give quite a crack un moderated but they are designed as full legal limit hunting rifles. Twistedsanity
I think there were issues with the latest vermi jamming the barrel up ? Also the fitting where you screw the bottle on is a nasty soft brass affair that permanently feels like you're cross threading it , the BSA ultra as somebody mentioned is a great little rifle , I killed more bunnys with my ultra than any other rifle

The only reason I sold it was I fancied a change and am still kicking myself for doing it. Agree on the ultra though cracking little gun plenty of shot count for hunting and stupidly pointable plus retailing for about £300 new in single shot or £450 ish in multi so a bargain to boot. Alexbb
Looked at a you. tube video this morning of the ultra. It seemed quite loud with a standard moderator. Does the barrel come off as well?
FalconFN
I think the standard moderator is worthless, if you put an HW on it will be very quiet but longer. If you really wanted to reduce the size you could possibly change the stock bolts to quick release ones and take the stick off until you get to where you're shooting, or just take an allen key? Zetter
Its really quiet as Falcon says with a HW Mod on it all you get is a soft thud of the valve opening when firing
Alexbb
That could make a lot of difference I think. There seem to be a good few more of these on the 2nd hand market as well. All the FX Verminators I have seen are around the 7/800 mark which as a first foray I think a bit spenny.

Ttfjlc
Sometimes it won't let you upload due to the max file size of 300KB, I normally have to send my pictures to myself via email and that gives me the option of compressing the file size. Herr Plinker
Alex, based on your point around the XVI you want something that is aesthetically pleasing to you as well as accurate. I have a Vermi MK2 in .22 and for me it ticks both boxes (my personal opinion). I too looked at the AA TDR and looked at the reviews and its a top gun with a top chassis (S410). The Vermi has the same level of accuracy (based on my tests) so it ends up with cosmetics, how it feels to mount and connectivity of bottle/cheek piece (before I get shouted down there are obviously other differences) At the end of the day you need to feel happy with what you buy and have something that puts a smile on your face rather than someone else's. ATB and good luck with whatever you choose
