camokid
hi all that is a pic of my quail house its a 8x4 shed with another 8x3 side piece made from timber mesh and perspects .. friday night it had 31 quail in there that i had hatched 4 weeks ago fed watered kept warm and generally looked after there well being AND GUESS WHAT? ? saturday morning there was none!!! ... not a single bird in sight but a small amount of feathers ....but all 31 disapeared i cant believe that in one night that skinny little vixen that i had spotted in the entry two weeks ago had got her bonie little as in a 4 inch gap that i did mesh and was sure that could not be a week point as that gap does get tighter down to about 3 inch..... she had scoffed 31 quail in a night ... to say i was hissed off was a understatement i thought i had the troublesome one last week a large dog that had come into the garden... so out came the chicken on the string with my trusty bell attached i had declared war on this vixen there was no way in hell i would let this one lie .. saturday she was a no show probably that stuffed full of quail she could not be bothered to move i had also left out a bit of dog food to sweeten the deal. on sunday i went to bed around 10 with no sightings at that point.... but as i was in the land on the nod i was awaken to the sound of jingle bells at 3;30 this morning in a flash i was in position on the kids top bunk rifle in hand lamp on and away she went over the wall and gone ... i hoped and prayed she would return and with 15 minutes she was back this time not fussed buy the immense power from my little green t20 i looked her right in the eye and shot her dead it was a feeling of sweet revenge she is a small one lovely condition you can see the size of her head against the tin of dog food it was still a good squeeze with birds in tow ... i hope now this is the end and my other 30 chicks that hatched saturday will be safe to be placed out side... many thanks andy

eccles
Well done Andy great write up mate sorry you lost your birds though. Its surprising how small a gap they need to get in. Remember well years ago on a big shoot i picked up on 1 got in and killed loads of pheasants . Took us ages to find out how the bloody thing got in, a tiny hole in fence was enough. atvb Terry

You would not believe the size of hole a full grown dog fox can tuck himself into , got to be seen to be believed.
