Paul223
I'd agree with speaking to the manufacturer, that crack looks very straight, more like a welded seem opening up, and yet I always thought they used drawn tube? Quite obviously a defect in the tube.
Paul223
A look with a bore scope would give a better idea If 'oversized' cartridges had been used and caused that type of damage then surely bulging and radial cracks /stretch marks would be noticeable Any evidence of the crack or bulging on the outside of the tube? Underdog
I'm sorry, but I'll have to disagree. The OP has no idea what sort of use/abuse the gun has been put through in the quarter century it has been around. For all he knows, someone could have been banging home-loaded 3.5" slug shells through it on deer dispatch for 10 years or more. To claim that it should last centuries, no matter what has been put through it ... well, I don't think that's a very realistic attitude. I'll put it that way. welcome your opinion sir. However if this gun has been mis used as you desribe there wil also be other signs! Not just a crack. A mis used barrel should bulge only...not crack. The aspect that has been missed here is that the only time a barrel should crack if a fault is in the steel is during proofing! Hence why I suggested speaking to Berreta.....someone has not done their job correctly.....in my opinion. 25years of age is no age for a quality shotgun! U. northernneil
There's no external marks at all. Sorry, I was getting confused between GMK (the importer) and beretta themselves. I didn't realise I could contact Beretta direct. I don't suppose an email would hurt. As for having barrels fitted, the ones Daffyd has sourced are from the same model of gun so should go straight on.
Underdog
I hope they do sir. Lets not forget. Berreta do sweat their barrels onto the chamber block. If this is not done right and in conjunction with thier super tough steel a stress point is created but should of been revealed at proofing where a huge over pressured load is subjected to the gun....not just a little over! This is a cheaper way of making barreled actions! Not long ago a gent on here had an issue with rust sweating from said joint on a Berreta! U. welshwizard
seen a lot of damage on barrels ,usually bulging on guns that have used an over pressure or incorrect length of shell and also pitting etc on neglected guns but never seen a split like that before . Bobba
I'm certainly interested in who Nigel Teague is, obvioulsy I've heard the surname (i have those extended chokes in the gun) but don't have any contact details etc. Google "Teagueprecisionchokes" his contact details are there. Great engineer.
welshwarrior
I agree GMK will do nothing Beretta may be more interested in the issue/ embarrassed by it. Lots of mono block guns sweat in a perfect world they should not most people never report or notice this fault. Everyone should be reported to the maker importer as their checks need a little tightening up.

Contact GMK, they will have been the importers and it is them that the original owner had a contract with, if they decide to inform Beretta so be it. northernneil
I've spoken with Ivan at Teague this morning and sent photos etc. None of them have seen this before. I've also just emailed GMK (sent photos and told them of this thread!) as I couldn't find beretta's email address for concerns. I'm just glad I didn't get my face taken off and it's certainly starting to question my build quality thoughts with Beretta.

Paul223
and it's certainly starting to question my build quality thoughts with Beretta. Beretta and Browning are the yard sticks by which other makes are judged, you can read no end of topics on here and other shooting forums where folk are recommended to buy one or the other of these two makes because 'they hold their value' and 'it'll last a life time' accompanied by 'you'll be able to pass it down to your kids' I'm sure as has already been said, they'll find it quite embarrassing! HDAV
Very interested in what they have to say not sure if WW has found you bare tubes or barrel assembly with the ejectors etc fitted. Do keep us informed as to the outcome/response very interested
Harnser
Are you insured ? all my guns are insured on my household policy against theft and accidental damage . If you are insured you should be able to make a claim . Harnser
northernneil
My home insurance wouldn't even entertain the idea of guns on the property! Lol. Gents, I'll be sure to post all correspondence good or bad on this thread. :-)
welshwarrior
HDAV. All they need is chokes everything else is fitted ready to go on an action. Ejector timing maybe slightly out but easy enough to fix.
Highbird70
If you go on Beretta.com page, there will be a link to facebook groups and other, those group are normally supervised by Beretta staff, drop a public message and attach the photos, they will contact you

northernneil
I keep looking for the like button on these posts haha! Right, Andy from GMK workshop has just called me and basically said I'm weeing in the wind as if he returned it to beretta they'd just say it was out of warranty. He also admits he's never seen it before either and wants me to RFD it to them (at my cost) so they can have a look and try and sell me new barrels. While he was trying to be helpful, I also got the impression of 'tough luck matey' from him. I'm off to find beretta on Facebook, I've already tweeted them but could only find the USA account. Underdog
Told you not to try GMK! They are a profit making organisation! That also often implies possibly BS artists!
northernneil
There is no other way of contacting Beretta in the Uk? It looks like it's GMK or nothing?
welshwarrior
GMK are Beretta UK you need to speak to the real Beretta in Italy they make the guns. GMK sell them make money sometimes deal with warranty work
northernneil
This is getting hard work lol! I'm guessing the only way of contact them is via phone and hoping someone speaks English as the website asks what country I'm in, it'll just bounce the email to GMK surely? They reckon they'll fit them barrels for me Dafydd, for the standard cost! Lol Edited June 2, 2014 by northernneil
