Dazza9t9
Hey all I currently have a 120d which I am looking to sell. In the process of buying a new house and looking to release some of the money tired up in the bmw (valued at between 6k and 5.5k) along with that I find the 1 series while it is a cracking car it's a little small for me. I am looking at spending 4k to 4.5k, I know it's not a lot of money. Cars I've been looking at include Vauxhall signum - looked at these before Vauxhall vectra Alfa 159 estate Ideally one with Bluetooth and sat nav however none seem to have Bluetooth. Is there any other models worth a look. What's people's experiences with after market Bluetooth systems?
robbiep
If you're looking at a diesel, then don't touch the 1.9s in either Vauxhall or Alfa - it's the same engine, and they're notorious for problems. If you've had the BMW for a long time, then you know it's history. Unless it's really much too small (i.e can you manage with it) then you're going to get trade value for it (or close on), and then going to have to pay retail value for whatever you buy. You may well end up with a worse car, and very little extra cash - especially once you've put a bit aside for any problems that might come up. Dazza9t9
Robbie, a very valid point. I always thought the vauxhall deisel engine was pretty splid
robbiep
A relatively decent place to go for real reviews is honestjohn.co.uk - though as in all of these things, you don't hear about the thousands of people without any problems, so always to be taken with a pinch of salt. The problems list on the Vectra http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/vauxhall/vectra-c-2002/?section=good is rather long though, and as I say, the same diesel engine was used in the Alfa. Also had a look at your car in the for sale section on here. Don't like to really get too involved in these sort of things (as they can easily descend into slanging matches), but I'll say that I think your pricing is ... optimistic, lets put it that way. My mum had a 116d Sport 5dr, and sold it a couple of years ago. It went for £9.5k. It was a 2009, with only 18k on the clock, and she'd owned it from new. In all honesty, if you can, I'd keep what you've got. Get the oil changed every 9k miles instead of the stupid BMW long intervals, and look after it. Aftermarket Bluetooth sets are pretty good, and most detachable satnavs are at least as good as fitted ones, and cheaper to get updated too. Dazza9t9
Robbie, I appricate your input. I'm open to feedback and you certainly won't get any "slanging" from me. I appricate peoples input and thoughts. Oh and as for servicing, it gets oil and filter change every 9 to 10k already
GP1
Have a look at the jaguar x type diesel , I bought the estate model and well pleased with it, a lot of car for little money
amateur
Hyundai i30 diesel - a size up from the BMW 1 series, or if you need even more space the i40 - both have bluetooth. For sat-nav why not have a cheaper after-market one
Cannon
The Vauxhall 1.9 diesel engine does suffer from some problems. Namely oil leaks and occassional electrical issues with badly places looms etc. The power steering pumps are also renowned for failing. Get yourself a nice 1.9d Volvo from no later than '04. At the money you're looking to spend you'd get a mint low mileage model with all the trimmings.

jam1e
What total **** by people who have probably never even owned the 1.9 cdti Vauxhall engine! I had that engine in a 2005 SRI 150 bhp Vectra variant for over 3 years. I even had it mapped to 185 bhp when I bought it. Great decision, no probs with mot's, or engine problems.... No increase in fuel economy at all, but a lot smoother and oodles more torque.. I did around 50,000 miles after the car was mapped, only ever did diy home services, although I am thorough... I then sold it to my mate who did another 20,000 plus more miles taking it to nearly 130,000 miles with no problems what so ever when he sold it on! All brands of all cars have there problems. It's simply luck of the draw!.... Just one of many opinions.... Jamie
Cannon
Owned a number of Vauxhalls including an 05 CDTI Vectra and they all had problems. Wouldn't touch a Vauxhall again. You were just lucky with yours Jamie

Oddly not had any issues with mine after inlet flaps done under warranty............. mate has a GT jtd, electrical issues bit none with the engine............ Is it worth it for £1500 towards house? Signum is nice but its a bit odd ball, the 159 will great to drive. Parrot bluetooth units are good.

As you say, is it worth it for an extra £1500 (at best) towards the house. Also, yes, the 159 will be pretty good to drive. But then again, the BMW 120d which the OP has currently isn't exactly the worst handling car on the planet.
Dazza9t9
After reading through the thread I am beginning to think it maybe best to stick with the bmw for the time being. As it's been stated at least I know the car and I know there is nothing at all wrong with it.
