TIGHTCHOKE
Yes it was per barrel TC, I did actually contemplate on hack sawing it off WP, many years ago when playing with STARSHOT I had a Remington 1100 barrel cut to 24" true cylinder and then filed out to get as much spread as possible! JJsDad
My local gunsmiths (East Grinstead Guns) charge £32 per barrel plus the dreaded VAT. I suspect you can get it a tad cheaper depending on how much work your local guy has got on plus prices across the country may well vary slightly. Spaniel
Will try Jimmy in Bath tomorrow and see what he charges which will depend if it's a good idea or just wait for something else to come along

Or you can jug choke the barrels. OP £20 a barrel is about right.

northeastshooter
How much at a rough guess I asked my local gunsmith about converting a fixed to a multi and it was in the hundreds per barrel cant remember the exact figure but a lot more than the gun was worth

wymberley
How will Nigel tighten your chokes? Will it be sleeved? I tripped over a lovely pair of AYA25 sidelocks with a motor case which were both Cyl/Imp ( early 80s I suspect when this was in vogue) at a silly price and before the owner changed his mind, I'd spoken to Nigel. Assuming that there was sufficient metal at the muzzles he could bore out the existing choke area and sleeve in permanent fixed chokes of my choice. wymberley
Heck I should have liked them as they were! "choke its the work of the devil" Problem is, in my experience of AYA 25" barrels when bored true cylinder - dimension not performance - they actually shoot the kind of pattern TIGHTCHOKE would have approved of for Srarshot which is pretty much useless for anything else. wymberley
performance should come before the theory of what a gun choke shell choice can /cant do Precisely, and whereas the means of determining it is quite straight-forward, hardly anyone bothers now. Old farrier
you raise an interesting point, performance should come before the theory of what a gun choke shell choice can /cant do This I think brings us back to gunmakers Bore ing and regulating guns to throw a specific pattern with a chosen cartridge To do a chosen job Must have been the days when you could have a gun room and no hassle about the number of guns you could have All the best Of

Not too many of us have gun rooms and x number of guns to play with. Would you say that patterning a gun, a simple enough job and apart from trying different cartridges, in order to achieve a satisfactory pattern quality which as laymen that's about all we can do in that respect, is of any benefit?
