Firearms application

Recommended Posts

So first post in a while although I have been a regular reader. I have just applied for my firearms certificate having been shooting rifles regularly with my friend. I have received back a letter from suffolk firearms stating that one of my referees is not suitable. My first referee is a long time family friend and teacher and my other is said friend with current Fac and shotgun certificates. I was a bit perplexed so I rang the flu and due to data protection could not specify who and why. So I just have to find another referee. Point worth mentioning the family friend did act as referee for my shotgun certificate, could this have any bearing on the application?

They need no qualification as such but criminal record might dis bar them or if you haven't known them long enough, five years for FAC I think? Just re-done mine and I have had different references at most renewals, this time it was a retired Rgt Sgt major and a plumber (both just close personal friends ) neither was contacted yet again

I suggest one of your referees has been in trouble with the police at sometime, i had my application back for the same reason, i could not understand it as the two referees were the same two persons I had used for my renewal five years ago. it turns out one of the referees had a police caution two years ago!

I understand about the criminal record but he holds a current fac and shotgun cert. Surely they wouldn't have granted these if he's not even fit to be a referee? I've known him 7+ years and shoot with him regularly. Hopefully I've found a suitable 3rd referee ex tax man and long term family friend plus he was my rugby coach for 2+ years. Fingers crossed this time!

Both my referees also held firearms certificates - and still said one was not suitable!!!

Does not make a lot of sense does it!

One of my referees had a caution but Humberside accepted her.

I didn't know until after she had sent the paperwork back so was a bit worried after I found.

So had my interview today. Decided just to get a .17hmr asked for .223 told wait a year. Can't argue with that as I haven't had a lot of experience with centerfire.

I can`t weigh this up, what is going to change in a year? your still not going to have any centre fire experience.
