naddan28
they cant even spell, just shows how stupid they are! http://www.againstcorvidtraps.co.uk/magpies.html first line "destry" lol another stupid site fromt their guest book: http://www.killhunting.org.uk/ I love the fact they incourage people to leave public footpaths, trespassing on private land and seem to imply that you should damage any traps found. Its brilliant, they encourage people to trespass onto areas where there could be potential shoots going on. Also curious that no negative views on their guest book... hmmm

pin
If any of these people spent time out in the country and watched a gang (tidings) of Magpie raid nests they wouldn't be so quick to judge. Apparently, according to their site "it's natural" that corvids take nestlings an eggs - yes, but its also natural that humans hunt for food. How do these people think we come by meat now? Ok we don't hunt for the majority of it, but that's because we moved on, not that I agree with intensive farming mind you. Its the natural order of things, I just think these people have something very lacking in their lives. Bunch of nosey ner-do-well do-gooding social outcasts who can't take part in ordinary society so they have to find something to care for, preferably something that can't tell them they are wasting their time

badsworth
confirms that populations of prey species are not determined by the numbers of their predators. So they say in their piece on Magpies and Songbirds - soooooo! As we (hunters) are also predators (of the magpies) the numbers of Magpies will not be affected by an increase in our numbers! Get shooting guys - the RSPB says it is OK B

Gully
Not difficult to get a phone number for this lady's other pseudonym, Pet Detectives and Animal Protection. Oh, and it looks like she also runs a contract bridge club. Not hard to picture her is it?
Suffolk shooter
Did anyone look at the Video clip of the Magpie in the Larsen trap? How the **** did they think the bird was going to behave, when they're stood not more than five feet away from it with a bloody video camera I don't recall any wild animal sitting there calmly whilst you approach it, and if you stood there long enough, with out it being able to escape, of course it would do that. Jesus these birds aren't stupid. They zoom in on the cage and the food and water, but to be honest, I thought that was one of the better cages I have seen, and theirs nothing wrong with the others. I'd email them, but fear that 1) they wouldn't post my comments and 2) there would be a serious lot of emails from them containing rather venomous content. I grant them that there are cases that go too far, and it is up to the majority of us to ensure that these aren't the norm rather the exception. However, just like the hunting act, carryon doing what we are doing until we are told it is illegal and can no longer be done. Every person who shoots/hunts/fishes etc knows that there has to be a balance within the ecosystem otherwise, there would be problems. Nobody in their right mind is looking to kill each and every last vermin animal, rather just maintain the balance. Annoyed SS
Ferret Master
Yup the RSPB seem OK with it. The winner of their lapwing award last year won it because of his sterling work protecting lapwing chicks using... wait for it... larsen traps. I was also speaking to an RSPB volunteer on one of their stands last year and he said on one of their reserves in Somerset they had just been doing some serious lamping to get on top of the foxes. I'm also an RSPB member. FM :o
