DazzJo
I sent AyA a email yesterday about asking weather my AyA Yeoman O/U is steel proofed for me to put steel down the barrels for when the season starts for the ducks drives, and they got back to me this morning saying that the gunsmith would like to speak to me about it. I contacted them with the number they provided me and the receptionist answered and put me straight through to the gunsmith Dale Boast. I must have asked several different questions and he was happy to help in a polite and 'straight to the point' manner. He explained history of the guns that I own, how they come out of the factory, what to use, what not to use, choke info, how to treat the gun. He was a real genuine guy and was happy to help as a lot of gunsmiths would charge for that kind of knowledge. So I would suggest if anybody has any queries about their AyA I would definitely say, not to hesitate and give them a call. Great service and was a pleasure to interact with someone who has a incredible amount of knowledge of firearms.

DazzJo
Well my local RFD couldn't make out weather it is steel proofed that's why I rang and they gave me the answer I am looking for yes it is is steel proofed and I can put steel down it, but I did ask about my SBS weather I can out steel down that and they said I could fire it down the right hand barrel but not the left hand side because the left hand can't take the load :( which I was a little gutted about as I love my SBS but at least I don't have to sit out of the duck drives now

dodeer
Any 70mm gun is ok for 70mm 32gram steel as long as no tighter than half choke
ChrisAsh
Any 70mm gun is ok for 70mm 32gram steel as long as no tighter than half choke That is the sort of answer that can get someone hurt or killed, if they are not marked steel proofed then they arn't steel proofed,
saddler
+1 Had great service from Dale in the past when I was repairing a mates older gun Good to see that there are still some UK firms that know what they're doing & employ knowledgeable staff
MartynGT4
Any 70mm gun is ok for 70mm 32gram steel as long as no tighter than half choke You may not realise it but that's very dangerous advice you're handing out there fella. Probably best if you remove or edit your post before someone takes your advice and gets hurt or worse! That is the sort of answer that can get someone hurt or killed, if they are not marked steel proofed then they arn't steel proofed, +1 p.s. I didn't see this before I posted my reply, which goes to show the original post should be removed or edited
kent
Any 70mm gun is ok for 70mm 32gram steel as long as no tighter than half choke sorry I disagree and I have one here that you would be very foolish to put such a 32 grm HP steel shell through, that's by its design there are others that will be dangerous through their condition. DazzJo
Why can't the left? Choke too tight? Yes mate that is exactly the reason. It was nice to her advice where it doesn't inform me being talked into buying something haha! Typical RFD's!
figgy
Standard steel carts are ok in 70mm chambers as long as it's proofed to the right amount as stated on the cartridge box. 3" chambers are proofed to the amount for standard steel shot carts not hp or ultra steel only the slowest stuff but all the boxes carry disclaimers etc. If it not proofed for steel I wouldn't use it. But the Americans do all the time they don't have proof on there guns but shoot all sorts of loads through them. Figgy

wymberley
Here we go again! Confusion reigns as ever. You can understand why if you read the 2nd and 3rd sentences of the overview for the Super Steel 12g Game and Wetland Steel cartridges on the Gamebore website. Which clown wrote them? He certainly has no tech' author qualification, not to mention common sense. Anyone who got the information that they were after and stopped reading at the end of #2 could be forgiven for his mistake. As has been said on here many times, the situation needs sorting. kent
I don't stick to all the rules, at least I am aware when I am breaking them and wont advise others to do the same. There is no gun yet made that can resist steel contact with the bore, though there are some made before steel was about that are OK for steel if you recognise why and the risks and condition of the gun in question are correctly assessed. I agree the regs are a total mess but we wont ever fix that too many guns out there
