HDAV
you hit some so great start, well worth a lesson or 2 to stop any bad habits forming early on that are hard to break after. why didnt you get on with DTL?

796
Hi I wasnt sure about dtl as I could never pick the clay up quick enough as I couldnt pick up any pattern to where they was coming from
Old farrier
Hi I wasnt sure about dtl as I could never pick the clay up quick enough as I couldnt pick up any pattern to where they was coming from Hi try holding your gun point of aim stand one at left hand corner of trap box Stand 3 centre of trap box Stand 5 right hand corner This should help you see the clay a bit easier I'm aware there is a lot more to it than this but easy achievable steps for a novice Go with a lesson or 2 All the best Of
Westley
Better still, try not shooting DTL until you have had at least 1 lesson. You really do need master eye checks and a gun that is a reasonable fit and that takes an Instructor. Gunfit and stance are 80% of success in shooting. If you had gone shooting today and hit 40 + I doubt that you would have been unhappy. So 2 boxes cartridge (possibly more on DTL) £10, 50 clays £15 possible food and drink, petrol etc. Near to £40 outlay. 25 cartridge and clays lesson similar price BUT a lot more learned and much more enjoyable shooting in the future. STOTTO
Score is about normal for a newbie, to improve buy a book I favour ‘Chris Batha’s, Breaking Clays’http://www.amazon.co.uk/Breaking-Clays-Target-Tactics-Techniques/dp/1904057438/ref=pd_bxgy_d_h__img_z to give you some idea of what you need to begin with, for DTL invest in this video http://www.amazon.co.uk/Clay-Shooting-For-Advanced-Shot/dp/B000FBHBWO, most of which is not much help, however Ian Coley gives a demo at the end of the video using an eye-cam which is quite illuminating, then have a lesson from a recommended instructor to obtain a real insight and improve! Welcome to the club follow the advice on this forum and your scores will most certainly get better. NITD
kingo15
First time I shot a 60 bird sporting back in march I got 13. Definitely worth getting a couple of lesson to help you go in the right direction as has been said.

welshwarrior
Couple of lessons will help with a nice foundation. Try to avoid DTL until your a little more confident there's a knack to it gun hold etc OF has given some good advice but there's no pattern that's the point, it's a technical discipline. A bit of sporting with an instructor then go and play for awhile to decide what you enjoy then learn to shoot that discipline or shoot lots.
