raphael262
Not that much different Was thinking it might have at least been a non toxic load http://www.gamebore.com/products/59/12g-black-gold-game-dark-storm
aris
Wool wad - sounds posh. What is diamond lead shot? Sounds like an oxymoron.
Guest stevo
I have shot shed loads of black gold , and yes they are a very good cartridge , are they worth the money ?? only you can answer that after trying a few slabs , as for the "NEW " dark storm the only improvement I can see is an extra 25 FPS over the standard black gold , Hmmmmm whoopee ......... Come on Gamebore give us something new .... Wheres my 28 - 30 grm # 6 with a FIBRE CUP !! . What is diamond lead shot? Sounds like an oxymoron ................ the shot is polished on one side ( so it has the same sort of properties as a cricket ball )
ColinF
It looks like they have done away with the Gordon Recoil Reduction cases for the "dark storm". The original Black Gold are quite lumpy, so it will be interesting to see what the new ones are like on that front. I stood next to someone (on the next peg) last season, who was using the wool wads, and the smell of singed wool really stinks!
aga man
York guns was stocking the black gold 40gm no4 with wool wad for an eye watering £129 a slab :o Can't be that special can they?

The last slab I got were a bit strange the didn't seem to seat so well and the metal was really thin. To be honest I couldn't tell the difference in recoil between the GB BG and hull high pheasant extremes without the Gordon recoil system. Gimmick Stink in a good manly way ? Probably not that special at all. But when you work out how much people pay on a shoot day per pheasant what's 129 quid a slab of cartridges. silver pigeon 3
Love the black gold in 32g 5's, if ever there was a confidence inspiring cartridge this is it. A gimmick? Maybe but it works! Edited July 28, 2014 by silver pigeon

ColinF
Stink in a good manly way ? No, stink in a way that you can still smell on the way home. Someone else who was there said they smell like a farrier shoeing a horse....
ColinF
when you work out how much people pay on a shoot day per pheasant what's 129 quid a slab of cartridges. Exactly. There are probably not that many shoots in the country where a load like this is required, and they will mainly be top end estates, who charge top end money for a day. rimfire4969
I normally use Black Golds during the season, especaily on a few bought days. I guess if they are in stock when I need some more I will give them a go.
Guest cookoff013
its just competing with a good high quality game load. 1525fps certainly isnt a traditional game load.... if i was ever-ever contemplating shells like these, i`d be more inclined to get a good 36g of big shot, slow speeds... for the price you could shoot any other high quality game load, and still have a fish supper afterwards. but one thing is for sure, Gamebore certainly know how to market and present a shell. these look fabulous ! rbrowning2
The 1525fps look to be traditional fibre wads the wool are a little slower 5fps as cookoff says they make excellent cartridges and market them very well. I haven't seen any prices for the new ones yet, but the original Black Gold 28g, 30g and 32g fibre wad prices are in line with other similar loads from Hull, Express and Eley. As the 40g is such a niche load, I don't think the price will really matter to the people who buy them? I guess the cost of the wool wad will bump up the prices of the new cartridges loaded with it? figgy
I've used Black gold 32g 5s and prefer Caledonian XL 30g 6s. Or Proper Snipe 32g 5.5s if it's goings to be a high bird shoot. I like a nice smooth cart that reaches out without the big recoil of some loads. Hull imperial game 28g 6 or 7 is a nice load. The new wool wad will be good for shooting in Wales. figgy
I thought the Dark Storm were the carts with wool wads but not so looking the above link as Black Gold also come with a wool was version. Must be the new super dooper game cart, more marketing hype. Same shot size and loads as others in the range. What gives? Figgy
Guest cookoff013
Cheaper to load jumpers.
