docholiday
Went out for a pricket and about 8.30 this little fella came across the ride in front of me, We haven't had any Muntjac in this part of the forrest until last year so only shot a couple, they certainly are spreading fast as we have now shot four this year. Hit him hard with 140 g from my 6.5 he went over with two summersaults and I thought that was that, climbed down from the high seat and he was nowhere to be seen, dog found him 20 feet away deep in the laurel bushes, Hard little bast***s managed to skin him but glad I don't have to do that everyday Edited August 16, 2014 by docholiday
The Essex Hunter
I have shot 9 the last couple of months and only had one take 4 steps @175 yards the rest have fallen where they stood, I was given a chillier and my last buck skinned lovely after 2 days in that... Nice little head on yours....well done TEH

al4x
They are really weird they either drop or have a surprising amount of run. I think it's often to do with how switched on they are some in the middle of fields will bolt on the shot. I've been out to find a few for people and it's surprising how far they can go with a large hole in the right place. Some just seem to shoot them in the shoulders as there is little meat there to spoil and it does stop them straight away.
Dunkield
Nice Buck Doc I have read about them running on, but have never had it happen to me, roe yes, but muntjac never. And I shoot them where you hit that, maybe a touch further forward if they are square on. I guess it will happen, it just hasn't yet... Dougy
Nice one, I'm tempted to go out later and see if there's any out on one of my bits, specially as I've just got some venison burgers out of the freezer for dinner. Only got 12 left too.
Dunkield
I think I will do the same Dougy only tomorrow morning before the rain comes. Shot 14 now in the last 3 months, but even so there are still quite a few about.

Dougy
Well, I've been out, nettles as high as my house, brambles an all. Had to make do with a couple of Fox's. But not making burgers out of them ;-)

Dunkield
Well, I've been out, nettles as high as my house, brambles an all. Same. Saw 2 foxes hundreds of yards away, plenty of roe does with followers and one young roebuck about 20 yards away. We watched each other for a bit and then he wandered off slowly (we have reached our self imposed limit on them) When the cover is as high as it is now muntjac stalking is bloody tricky, and IMO it's harder than roe stalking to start with. I reckon I could, if they were in season and I wanted to, shoot at least 5 roe for every shootable muntjac I see.
docholiday
yup, we leave the Roe alone and its **** law there are always 1 or 2 about that are easy shots, played golf yesterday and a doe was by the side of the fairway and couldn't care less about us,
