Silver pigeon 20bore cartridges???

Recommended Posts

A while back posted on here about down sizing from a 12 bore. Well I have gone a got 20bore silver pigeon 1 multi choke. As it is such a popular gun just seeing what people are using cartridge wise for game? Gram weight, shot size and which you have found pattern the best. Cheers.

I shoot a 30 or 32 g 5 (Eley VIP or Hull High pheasant) however that's only because I have fixed chokes with IC/M and I prefer 5's over 6's. I bump up to the heavier charges to keep the pellet density up.

If I shot a multichoke or if I didn't regularly have shots at 40 yards, then I'd bump down to a 25-28g 5. I quite happily shoot a 28 g load in the 12 with modified or multi chokes.

thanks,

rick

a cracking gun in 20g..right cartridges;best dependent upon what your shop stock are:Eley VIPs 28g 5/6.RC Sipe 26g 6s.Hull high pheasant 25g 6/7s.You really do not need to feed more than this......if I had to shoot just 1 shell it would be the Hull 25g they are a cracking shell, but others above work perfectly well.My SP is fixed choke @ 1/4 &1/2.Great hide gun.enjoy.

  • 2 weeks later...

I start the season with 25-28g of 7's (mine too is 1/4 and 1/2) and later on as birds fly better up to 28g of 6's. Tend to use the usual names; Gamebore, Hull, RC etc but have had Trust recommended and these are cheap so hoping my SP will like them @ £38 a slab. Not seen Proper cartridges in Sth Norfolk - who stocks and how much?
