panoma1
Stay away from plastic wads!
Norfolk Rogue1
can i ask why not to use plastic wads cheers
panoma1
Because these bored out ten bores are very tight in the bore @ about .813 (even tighter at the chokes!!).......nominal 8 bore is .835.......some plastic wads can be .846 (they are made for industrial use) so there is a very real chance of bulging the barrels! birdsallpl
I believed grants imported the 10 and 8 direct from Spain. I wasn't aware that he had the 10s bored out. Although I do believe some 10 have been bored out after importing but this is only what I remember reading somewhere. Could be wrong of course though. wigeon jim
All Ralph Grant 8 bores are bored out 10 bores, I have one and have put 1000s of plastic wads through it, a lot of these guns were.bulged at the chokes but I think it was more because of overloading , they are no where near as strong as original 8 bores, stick to 2 oz loads and felt wads to keep on the safe side, Jim. Beretta28g
Washman drop me a pm sometime. I have one and only got it sorted recently. I have quite a bit of data and that I could possibly email over. I plan to be using mine on Norfolk marshes this season. I am also interested where Norfolk Rogue 1 bought some, i am assuming non toxic 8 bore loads from? Cheers
Doriboy
Hi. Let's be straight , Ralph Grant 8 bores are all Spanish made 10 bores that were modified to take 8 bore ammunition, they are bored from .813" to .827" depending on the age of you're gun. The one I had was .827" and managed to bulge the right hand barrel (choked quater) with 2 1/2oz of lead and a gualandi industrial wad. Up until this I had been firing plaswads with no problems despite warnings from others. If you use plaswads through it, you will get problems, it's only a matter of time. Do your research, make up some proper loads (best using 9 bore fibre wads) and it'll last you a lifetime. Hope this helps
figgy
Curious as to what you do to protect barrels from steel if using a Fibre wad. Figgy
Big Mat
Curious as to what you do to protect barrels from steel if using a Fibre wad. Figgy You can get fibre shot cups for 8 bore. But most, if not all 8 bore reloading is done with other non roxic
Doriboy
Either don't use steel (that's the best idea) or you have to get some protective wads made. If your using tungsten then you should use a shot wrap too, this can be made quite simply by pushing a 12 bore case into a gualandi plaswad (not in a Ralph Grant) and slitting it. You can use the same kind of technique with fibre wads too.
Beretta28g
Don't use 9 bore fiber wads as they don't have a tight enough gas seal
