HDAV
As long as current one hasn't expired your still a certificate holder, where you requested to send old one back?
bostonmick
my take would be that as long as your current certificate is in date you are fine.i also believe that the firearms dept cannot let your certificate expire wherefore leaving you in breach of the laws.they would have to either issue your new cert or provide you a temp one or of course refuse if there are grounds. Gee.
Demand a temporary certificate (cant remember the exact term) as you are now in illegal possession of firearms without a valid licence. Get on the phone to BASC.
seeker
As Gee says, an expired certificate = no certificate. ... Ask for a temporary certificate There's a link in the General Section of this forum to The Home Office Guidance with a bit of info ... Scully
Spoke to the fire armes department my licence has expired and that also said it won't be till October for a new one Your licensing dept' are required by 'default' to issue you with a temporary permit. You are currently in illegal possession of your own firearms with the full knowledge of your issuing police force, who are also breaking the law by allowing you to possess them without a valid certificate. Contact your shooting organisation asap. Would you mind letting us know what the outcome is?
welshwarrior
Spoke to the fire armes department my licence has expired and that also said it won't be till October for a new one 😡😡😡😡😡 Get on the phone to BASC ASAP You are now illegal holding guns if you submitted the renewal on time the Firearm dept are liable for storage fees or they can issue you a temporary certificate. AlistairB
The temporary certificate is called a section 7, phone them and demand one under the firearms act, they are delaying, not you. if they say no, tell them they are liable for all your costs for gun storage as you are currenty not licensed and therefore you cannot have them at home! A section 7 allows you to hold the shotguns you have, and buy ammo for them, but not acquire another gun whilst its in force. AB
George's Dad
From memory (once I knew such stuff off by heart), a Police Officer could demand the production of a shotgun certificate from anybody in possession of a shotgun in public, and if that person failed to produce one (a certficate), then the PC could seize the shotgun. Having seen what happens to property in Police stores, do you really want plod to be trusted with your pride and joy? Ask for a temporary certificate is my advice. PS Look at this - my memory isn't as bad as I thought! http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1968/27/section/
