As you light weight machine is not pushing dead birds then I recon you will be better off with a 7/8/12 amp lamping battery and a shorter cable. Longer the cable the greater the loss as I remember..... That is why most machines have only 4-5 foot of cable....also the longer it is the more to get tangled.... ditchman
sorry......never used a magnet before.....so the battery needs to be near the magnet then.....or that what everyone does..........
fenboy
Yes , you only need a cable long enough to have the battery far enough from the arms so you can disconnect without getting a smack in the ear

dead eye alan
Yes short is good also, cable run in line with hide, (it has been known to get shot and broken ) and as small a battery as possible and covered with a bit of net or what ever is in the field. I also paint the crock clips with mat green paint stops sun glare. Yes I know I'm anal
activeviii
Longer the wire the slower the motor will spin. I always put the battery inline with the hide and magnet, less likely to shoot the lithium battery

ditchman
Of course ditchman's post could be a spoof as he is a very practical man I know. I spoof ye not...........i have never used a magnet.....we tend not to use them in this area...people have used them but not to any great effect...we tend to get better results from flappers...electric and manual.... since the rape is starting to come up i decieded to make a different sort of magnet (see geared magnet post).....as said before it is an ich i must scratch having a bit of trouble finding the right piece of plastic for the "2D" decoys.... JDog
You could extend your theory and the cable by running it off the mains supply.
