pigeon controller
While I was shooting yesterday I received a call from one of my farmers say that his agrologist has just seen two thousand pigeons on his barley stubble if I'm interested , as it was not crop protection I said I would get to him when I can, hopefully at the weekend , which he was happy with. 10.30 this morning I received a call from the farm next to the above farm that he had two thousand pigeons (NOT) on his rape , so I said I will be there in thirty minutes which I was after a thrash down the motorway. Standing with the farmer overlooking the rape not a bird in sight. he said we did set off a firework and they all lifted. He insisted that I set up on the rape but I said I would set up on the barley stubble next to it . As I made a comment on yesterdays post, being forced to shoot a field I would not normally set up on without seeing birds return to keep the shoot and the farmer happy.I drove up across the stubble to a place which is the normal flightline on the field and realised that in my haste I had forgotten to bring the decoys ( Blame it on my age) so set up the hide under a tree to protect me from the sun. the farmer had taken some branches off the tree to get his combine close to the edge and i had one large branch restricting my high shots so I did some 12 bore pruning and placed the branch in front of my hide. I poured a coffee and waited , the noise I made during the pruning exercise disturbed some birds to fly over and gave me some great shots and five decoys to start. It was now 12.00 and I shot till 16.00 as it had gone very slow I had only five or six birds actually committ to the decoys the others just flew within range . I ended the day with fiftyseven birds and on the way home had a text from one of my game dealers who has just collected at 19.30. I,m yet to see two thousand pigeons??? fenboy
A decent bag under the circumstances PC. I think farmers are better at counting money than pigeon I have been for a ride out today and found getting on for 2000 spread over three bean stubble fields that are next to each other . Hopefully a decent bag is on the cards for us tomorrow.

JDog
Farmers are farmers not pigeon decoyers. However you will get some credit for turning up when requested to do so and some of those fair weather decoyers that you often refer to may be kept off. blasterjudd
A good day and you had the same problem as me the birds were not very committed into decoying and shot flying over the pattern But still good result and nice write up Mr PC...
