esox
Hi Tweedman.....Is this for a variation or is it your first FAC . Cant really put a time limit on it some people wait ages others get them really quick....First time grants usually take longer though. Barry. Cannon
Initial grants seem to be taking around 2-3 months at the minute.
Tweedman94
Thanks lads. What way does the application process work over here all I've had is a receipt letter so far
Big Al
Has anyone been out to look at your gun cabinet yet? My understanding is that the application goes from Lisnasharragh to local feo for cabinet check and local input before being sent back to Lisnasharragh again for issue. I THINK thats the order of things.
ordnance
Don't be scared to ring them and ask, they are usually helpful.
Tweedman94
Noones been out to look at my cabinet yet I rang up today and was told my local feo is out sick il let you's know if I here anything more Thanks again for the help
The Juicer
Just hope the feo is not off ages. My variation recently was around 6 weeks. A friend had his 1st grant in around the same time recently. I presume you have your cabinet correctly fitted etc waiting for the check? Pastiebap
If you're in the Armagh city area then there are 2 FEO's covering the area so one being off sick shouldn't be an issue. If Ardmore is your station area then as far as I am aware there is only one FEO there, however ideally other areas should be covering their work. Phone Lisnasharragh and ask, it would do no harm. The Juicer
That was a long wait! Things are getting worse here.
Pastiebap
They dragged that one out. Good to hear you finally got sorted.
Blazer
Hi Tweedman, did you get any idea about why there was such a delay? I'm waiting on a variation sent in 2 weeks ago. My last variation was dealt with in 10 days and that was early 2012. Looks like I needn't hold my breath then.
Big Al
One theory I have heard (from an rfd) is that they are setting up a big hike in fac price. "Can't cope. Need more staff so need more money" kind of argument. Who knows.
Blazer
Yes, I've heard that too. I suppose I need to take into account the Easter holidays but a separate application for explosives permission which I made at the same time for powder and primers for reloading came through within a week though I'm now waiting one month for the variation (add on). Still it's disappointing that the service can be so patchy.

I hope it comes through soon for you - I could understand a bit of a hold up for a new fac grant request, but find it harder to understand delays with variations when the person has already been deemed suitable to hold firearms. Unless it is a cf rifle needing a land check? I know psni have had big funding cuts too ( like the rest of the public sector) but you to feel the process must be over cautious if someone is adding a similar calibre go what they already hold. Blazer
Yes it is a cf but for club use, not for over land and not like for like either. That would explain it I suppose but I did at least expect some sort of contact from the local FEO.
Blazer
FAC arrived on Wednesday. So just over 6 weeks from acknowledgement letter. Not a terribly long time to wait so I've no complaints at all.
