Medical Forms

I called in my Firearms office to collect the renewal forms after receiving my notice at the weekend, as none where enclosed.I was talking to the girl at the reception when I was abruptly told that I had to download them by a lady who said she was the fire arms licencing supervisor?.After explaining my printer was broken I was reluctantly given the forms plus medical forms. The officer mumbled something along the lines,it was now home office requirement or something.I wasnt listening fully as she made me feel like I shouldn't even be in the building. When I got home I noticed the med form now has the Home Office logo.I have no issues with the med form but was wondering if this is now compulsary rather than voluntary.Been checking the internet but cant find any thing to say its now in legislation.

It is not legislation, nor even part of HO guidance. You are under no obligation to comply. NGO advice is that if you are told you must comply, or that it may hinder the progress of your application, then you should ask for the name and rank (if applicable) of the person responsible and the licensing authority, and they will take it from there with the view that a non statutory demand has been made on an applicant. Or words to that effect; it's a while since I was told.

Im looking at their website now and it clearly states...

'while it is not a legal requirement to complete this form or the medical questions trial form and the process is voluntary ,completion may expedite the application'

I wouldnt personally fill it in because its not obligatory.

The inclusion of the Home Office logo on the form is a nasty little trick by Durham to imply the forms are issued and/or required by the Home Office.

As has been said above they are absolutely not required or even suggested by either Home Office guidance or firearms legislation.

If you were told differently please PM David Basc on here and let him know, Durham have been told multiple times not to make such false assertions.

Should you also like to make a formal complaint to Durham Constabulary the firearms licensing manager is Laraine Ellison. However, following the damming IPCC report on the departments failings with regard to the Horden shootings the department is now supervised/overseen by Chief Inspector Steve Ball. I'd also cc a copy to the Chief Constable and the PCC.

Thanks mate,I am not sure if this lady, who said she was cheif supervising licencing officer could of been Laraine Ellison.I have no issues with the medical forms an will comply.I just got the impression she implied it was now homeoffice approved due to her making a point of pointing out the logo. What I do object to was the manner in which she spoke to me,and I found her comments patronizing for example. I said that I could down load the forms at work from BASC, but I couldnt see the medical form. She looked at me puzzled,so I said British association for shooting and conservation, at this she snapped, "I am well aware who they are thankyou! & of course you cant find the medical form on there website as they are kicking up a stink!I eventually left with tne forms but she was very reluctand to hand them over,I even tried to lighten the conversation by saying I have only had a bad back in the last 5yrs at which point she state "well that all depends on your medication doesn't it old man". Hope firey jacks got no anti depressant side effects.

It is completely unnaceptable to be speaking to a senior citizen like this. I would not comply. It will in the long run legitimise this form and might even become mandatory. Maybe follow phaedra's advice by sending this form along with your complaint to the Chief Inspetor, the Chief Constable and to the PCC, maybe also include the disparaging remarks made by the local firearms licesing manager.

Not on mate.

Sounds like she's either anti shooting or anti, actually having to do some work to me Dave.

I personally wouldn't fill in the medical forms, as previously said, it could give them ideas about making it mandatory if enough people play along with their games. Anyway glad to see you are renewing your ticket and here's another pic of the sxp 😉 E3315F15-CF1D-43A1-B180-0FE2ABD00DE9_zps

Sadly this has been the usual response from Durham for a quite a while now, they speak as if they are doing you a favour, even when you are paying their wages & getting a third class service for it...

A mate of mine has just received renewal forms, (his certs run out the end of March 2015), he's been told to return them quick as Durham are now on 120 day turn around.....nowt changed there then..
