My son is getting well into this game and he's hogging my iPad playing it. Seems a tad more creative (virtual lego?) than running round blatting zombies or whatever so I don't mind encouraging it (to an extent).

I note there is a PS3 version of it, anyone know if it's a decent port and worth getting? Same question for Macs.

Thanks.

its pretty much the same on ps3 as mac imo, graphics look the same and gameplay is the same. Depends if he prefers using a kb and mouse or controller. I have it on both (for my 7 year old son) and he mainly plays it on the mac or pc. Game sometimes have competitions in store for people to build the best stuff in 10 mins so knowing how to use the controller is useful. If he's used to it on mac or pc then playing it with a controller is slightly different but he will probably be able to pick it up very easily as the gameplay and graphics look the same.

The mod packs you have to pay for on the ps3 if he wants them but they are only about quid each (opposed to the free ones on the mac/pc).

Its deffo a very creative game, and multiplayer on mineplex etc he finds really fun on mac. Im not sure if the mineplex servers are available on ps3? Always makes me feel old when I'm asking him how to build stuff in it or what combination of stuff makes what!

Hope that is of some use!

Cheers

Steve

Take them fishing, camping, shooting..

Ugh, I don't do any of that, I think fishing is wet and pointless, camping is too cold and uncomfortable, and shooting is really cruel...in fact why go out at all when you can call for pizza delivery and sit in front of computer games?

That's it, he's never leaving the house again....

Encouraging kids to sit in front of the PC? No ta! Mine is bad enough already! They should be encouraged to get out more! Take them fishing, camping, shooting, or take up a new hobby you BOTH enjoy!

It's not an either or situation though. Encouraging them to play on games like minecraft (quite a creative game that some schools are apparently using) doesn't mean they won't spend time outside.

I played on video games a lot as a kid, but I still spent most of my childhood outside and have fond memories.

My boys are obsessed with it. They have it on their iPads and Xbox, have books on the subject and watch videos on youtube of other people playing it. Gets right on my tits. I really have to restrict their usage otherwise they would be on it all day long.

I know what you mean DH that Stampy's on You tube's voice gets me climbing the walls.

Unfortunately my office is also the boys room and I have for the first time told my lad that I don't want him to play a game whilst I am working or on the computer. I can hack all the normal games but this Minecraft has to be the most boring sounding game I have ever endured. The reason I say sounding game is that I have tried to watch what he is doing but cant for the love of me work out what the object of the game is. Am I possibly being an old codger or is there really some object to Minecraft?
