yickdaz
if you seen my post yesterday, I mentioned that on my way to the field we shot I found birds on other rape fields we shoot, so I planned one of them for today weather was perfect nice sunny day with a decent n/w wind got to the field for 10.30am birds in the trees and on the deck birds flighting from the surrounding woodland, so it took 5 mins to decide the spot to shoot from set up by 11am statics and rotary to start straight away birds came in first 2 hours they came very well then last hour or so tailed off it went dead about 2.15pm so packed up picked 46 with a few hit birds that flew into distant trees, would of broke the 50 mark but a public footpath ran the length of the field opposite me about 150 yards away so when I spotted someone walking down it I stopped shooting until they cleared the field this happened half a dozen times and birds were coming into the decoys whilst they walked down it , I can honestly say this last 2 days is the best start to winter rape shooting I can remember hope it continues
JDog
A good two days. The pigeons do seem to want rape at the moment.
motty
Another good effort, though I feel your success on the rape may not last too long.
pigeon controller
Well done for the second day, public footpaths can be a pain. They should ban walkers from the countryside!!!!!!

Catamong
Another good effort, though I feel your success on the rape may not last too long. Motty, Why do you say that..? I had my first trip out on the rape today, a really foggy start that cost me a good few birds, the fog cleared around 9.30 and I packed up at 12.30 with 61 in the bag. Once they start on the rape, they tend to stay on it until the Spring drillings start, so, if you know what you're doing, it's "fill yer boots" time from here on out... Cat. Never heard of winter rape shooting being called fill yer boots time before , in over 30 years of pigeon shooting I have only shot one ton bag on rape (other than stubble) and that was shot in March . As for the winter shooting it has always been a few shots then they all dissappear time for me !

In my experience, a few decent goes on the rape are very possible at about this time. I anticipate things will become harder in the coming weeks, only getting easier around Feb/March. Well done to anyone who is getting regular bags of around 50+ in the coming weeks on rape.

As for the winter shooting it has always been a few shots then they all dissappear time for me ! I've had a good many ton plus bags over Winter rape, but it can be frustrating at times, you need to put another gun or a banger rope on nearby fields. I put a banger rope out at the opposite end of the field yesterday, it worked a treat and kept them on the move. Cat
