Paddy Galore!
I was in boots with the wife today and came across some of these which got me thinking, I used to own one about 20 yrs ago and it was pants, I just wondered if they've improved somewhat and is it worth spending a whole hundred odd pounds on one while they're in the sales? they do seem to have gone up in price since I last looked lol! what's the pw verdict on these? cheers, paddy. figgy
Nope, only good shave is with a sharp blade in a DE razor or open blade cut throat. Leccy are pants I've had loads over the years some very expensive and all were nowhere near a good de razor. Only Half decent one I have is a Panasonic one bought in Teneriffe around ten years ago, outlasted and out performed new so called better ones. Les*1066
The electrics are OK when they're new, but the cutters don't last forever and finding replacements can be difficult - and expensive. But having said that, I wouldn't be without mine. I don't like the sight of blood in the morning!
longspoon
Wife bought me a Remmington foil shaver that was advertised in the Telegraph, a lot less than £100 and I reckon it is brilliant.....

manthing
Started with lecky many years ago and quickly gave up on that, from then till now it's been me and Mr Gillette, but the wife and daughter got me an open blade for Xmas so I've got to start all over again now. Chris Bb
Having read this thread a few days ago I got out my Philishave. Ten minutes into what would have been a five minute job with a wet razor I remembered why I rarely use lecky. And it still wasn't as close a shave. Salop Matt
Can't stand leccy shavers, rubbish shave and leave me sore. Wet shave every time. Occasional in growers with a Mach 3 but last year I gave a second chance to DE (double edge razor) and it's been great. I have now found my purfect razor and blade setup: Edwin Jagger DE89 with green Astra SP blades, I also use a badger brush and Taylor of Old Bond Street (Sandlewood) cream. With this setup my shaves are great and a lot cheaper than cartridge razors. Everyone should give DE a bash even if reserved for weekend luxuries ! Paddy Galore!
well I bought one, a Philips waterproof 3 whirly bladed thing that I can use in the shower, only thing is we have no water at the moment as a water main has burst, so we're boiling up panfuls on the cooker to wash with, there's bowsers positioned all over NR14 & NR15 areas and it's a bit of a hassle getting enough for a meaningful bath so the 1st shave will have to wait. cheers, Paddy
Blunderbuss
I started DE shaving a couple of years back and have never looked back. Quick, cheap, irritation free and even enjoyable. I've acquired quite a selection now of vintage and modern DE razors. I've even had a dabble with straight razors. I'd always wet shaved with multi blade cartridges before that. I tried electric razors a few times and they were always a massive disappointment. Took ages, left my skin sore and gave me a rubbish shave. The adverts always look seductive and blokes like their gadgets, but IMO leccy razors are all style over substance. grrclark
I have gone through a few leccy shavers as well as various blade razors and also now use a de razor when i bother shaving, but when I did have the leccy one i bought a stick called 'shaver saver' have also seen similar called 'razor saver'. It is really just a block of compressed talc that you rub over your face before using the leccy razor, if dry shaving, it made a huge difference and a much smoother shave. figgy
Edwin Jagger de 89 barley twist with Feathers or Personna Platinums,or Japanese Miraki open blade with the long Miraki disposable blades when I feel like being cocky or want to bleed, nearly always get a nick if I go back over an area even when re lathered. One pass against the grain close fast blood and irritation free.

GingerCat
Would use one but the best I've seen are similar to rubbing a brick on my face for 5 minutes, just can't get on with them, as a contrast my dad has used one for 30 years and doesn't seem to mind the constant unshaved look.
