BattleFieldRelics
From firearms UK. Thought it may be of interest to some: And so it begins Calls for more restrictions on legal gun owners and laws that will affect liberty. We are reminded that "Insanity is trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results." "Tougher restrictions on ammunition are needed to stop British-based jihadists carrying out Paris-style gun attacks, a former security minister has said." "Lord West said the UK’s tough anti-gun laws were a crucial tool in the fight against terror - but demanded further action to tighten restrictions on ammunition."" It is incredibly difficult to obtain bullets legally in the UK, you need an FAC to do it after thorough background checks and interviews by police. People can't just walk into a shop and purchase ammunition. What more can they do? Only law abiding people are affected by regulations. "UK's tough anti gun laws were crucial tool in fight against terror" I Aside from the fact that he admits our gun laws are "Anti" instead of the usual "common sense" our laws are actually a crucial tool in increasing the risk to the public. Our tough anti gun laws don't deter criminals or terrorists, it emboldens them because they know a nation of disarmed and defenceless individuals is a soft target. All our laws do is fool people into thinking they are safe. The attackers in Paris did not get their guns legally. Instead of continuing with the same madness why don't our politicians actually look at trying something new? Let's introduce laws that allows law abiding people the ability to defend themselves and others. It won't be a free for all and it won't lead to chaos in the streets. The Czech Republic is a good example. Even the former Secretary General of Interpol suggested that the best option for countering these attacks is an armed citizenry. The public needs to ask themselves why Governments do not trust us? Important figures are protected 24/7 by armed security, we do not have the option of armed security or arming ourselves, are our lives not as valuable? This is something we need to talk about if Governments are serious about keeping the population safe. They have admitted they can't stop every attack or guarantee our safety. So why can't we have a sensible well regulated system in place to allow us to protect ourselves? Terrorism is used as an excuse to restrict liberty when we need to promote it. CharlieT
On a personal note, I do not relish the thought of living in a society where every wannabe Rambo and aspiring John Wayne is armed.
Fisherman Mike
I cant see it affecting bona fide licence holders tbh. and if terrorists want to get hold of ammunition they will get it into the country the same way they do money, drugs, and themselves,....illegally. clakk
because we are an easy target.full stop everyone in and out of goverment knows the gangs that kill on our streets and rob people dont have FAC or ever intend to.but they have to be seen to do something so they attack the law abiding gun owners and shout it to the papers.terrorists use ak,s n other military spec weapons easily smuggled into our pourous border with france.anyone whos come back through dover knows its a 1 in 10 chance of getting stopped so how much has come in mr security minister .and surprise surprise its not on any licence or even legal in the UK. sitsinhedges
Exactly what ammo are the terrorists going to get from us? Clay loads aren't going to be much use and I doubt anything good would come from putting centrefire ammo thru an improvised gun.
huntsman
Government ministers are yet to grasp the real world they live in a protective bubble are over paid and do not know what is happening in the real world Edited January 11, 2015 by huntsman
Les*1066
If the terrorists are bright enough to get full-auto weaponry - or any illegal weaponry, for that matter - etc into the country, they will be smart enough to get the ammunition for it too. Or is that just too simple for the politicians to grasp?

The Mighty Prawn
The quote without context is absolutely pointless in my opinion, a single sentence taken from presumably an interview can be twisted and bent to suit any agenda

BattleFieldRelics
Update: Yesterday we received an e-mail from Lord West after contacting him to clarify his comments on calling for tougher restriction on ammunition. Lord West explained that he believes our current restrictions on legal gun owners are adequate and he was referring to illegally obtained ammunition. We asked if Lord West could make this important distinction clear in future as law abiding gun owners often face the backlash.
STOTTO
It never fails to amaze me how politicians somehow believe that by heaping more pointless restrictions upon the law-abiding that they somehow hope to control the activities of the lawless!! Baring in mind that the authorities are in-the-main, aware of who both groups consist of yet single out the former for greater scrutiny and restriction whilst leaving the latter to go about their business without further hindrance or inconvenience until they are caught doing what with intelligent foresight should have been to the most part preventable.
