yickdaz
I hadn't been out for 2 weeks its been a bit rubbish to be honest on the rape this last 5 weeks or so small bags and sometimes nothing, I was determined to get some shooting in today no matter what it took, went to the said rape fields 3 different areas and hardly a bird in sight most I seen was 100 on one field but moving around in 1 flock no flightlines at all so I headed back thinking will look at 2 farms were we have rape bordering them , stopped off at the 1st of the 2 farms and there was birds heading towards the rape off our boundary, but there is a small holding with a birch wood behind it which runs right down to the rape just the other side ,we have permission from the small holding owners to shoot this wood and there was a good flightline into it and a lot in the trees, so I geared up and went into the wood, I shot a couple in no time and set the rotary right on the edge of the wood in a clearing just 20 yards from the rape edge, the flightline was from behind me across the wind then they turned into it banking round from behind the rotary was behind me and it pulled them over my head it worked brilliantly some even tried to land near it just 20 yards from the trees it was great to see, it was very good shooting in the strong wind I couldn,t swing the gun fast enough on some birds and needed a hinged back to get on others no hide no decoys just natural cover and the rotary a great 3 hrs with 42 shot with 38 picked up shot from 1pm till 4pm
