rich1985
Which reloader would you guys and gals recommend. Want to load my own 20 bore cartridges, mainly subsonics. Any advice be great, thanks,
Guest cookoff013
Get the Lee. If its for a cheap fiddle. Go cheap. However I have owned 3 mecs and I still own 2. I love mec. (I have not made love to mec) Rich. If you want to see one in the flesh pop down. If you want a cheap loader go Lee. If you want to tinker go Lee. If you need to feed a gun that needs special ammo go with whatever you can afford. After the shell is loaded no one knows what the shell has been loaded on. Worst case scenario. You hate reloading you sell the Lee for £30 and you loose almost nothing.
brian28
http://claygame.co.uk/products/detail/800-plusOne of these make mecs seem primitive.

seeker
But not as pretty as that Simply Italian model ...with its spinning bits. I used a Lee for 12 bore and a MEC for 28 bore, but that's because LEE don't do a 28 .... !!
Underdog
Lee, simple. U.
sitsinhedges
The finish on a Mec will be superior and once you start needing cartridges in number a progressive Mec will spew out several hundred per hour. They are quite expensive though and you need to be thinking of years to come to justify the expense.

rbrowning2
That excuse for a reloader #### are selling no deprime ,prime, resize. Partly correct the simply is aimed at EU loaders who have better acess to new cases but if you follow the link you will see the cleaver people at OMV (Simply) also offer a seperate machine to deprime reprime and resize and both the simply press and deprime/reprime/resize machine is similar money to the clay and game offering. Serious bit of kit for the serious reloader, but to answer the rich1985 question to start with the Lee is a good buy. rbrowning2
Do you own a simply ? No, have seen the one #### have as a demo but my own modest reloading needs these days would not justify the cost, just wish I could have got one twenty years ago. Having time on my hands I use a MEC600 together with a GAEP spinner to finish the crimp, 12ga and 28ga works well.
figgy
What's the difference in the final crimp that mec and others need spinning to get a finish, that commercial loaders don't when all are pressed by the same process. Can the makers of cheaper machines not make the final station taper the end as it crimps.
rbrowning2
Commercial machines do not use dead final tool to close the case like in the lee or MEC they use a rotating spinner as a final tool the proper cartridges web site used to have a nice video showing just that but they have changed their web site and the vdeo has gone. Also I found setting the final crimp station on the MEC was a pain and changed with the make of most cases. Ok if you used only the same make of case then you could get a reasonable crimp most of the time. However all I now do is use the MEC to deprime, resize, prime, put the powder in, wad in, shot in then use only the MEC first crimp stage then take the cartridge quickly to the spinner to close the case. I then get an excellent crimp. Especially if my shot column matches the original load and I do not need to worry about the make of case just that they are all the same length 70mm. I think the spinner also gives a more uniformed and deeper crimp so I hope more consistent ballistics.
rbrowning2
This gamebore video sort of shows the spinner in action a felt wheel is used to oil the case prior to spinning. http://georgedigweed.com/how-the-champions-choice-is-made/ I am sure the video has been linked to on the forum before but if you have not seen it enjoy. P.S George (Proper Cartridges) if you read this it would be nice to have your video back on your site.
