marnold
For me the noise isnt an issue, but a round zingin off into goodness knows where, no matter how carefull you are with backstop was a real issue for me ! ATB Matt +1 I hate the tendency of the 22LR to ricochet so my 17HMR gets used 99% of the time! Edited February 20, 2015 by marnold
Greenhunter
I have just offered my .22 setup to a mate who's just starting out.I enjoy shooting the HMR more and agree, the bouncy 22 is always a worry. I've got FAC air to fill in on the noise sensitive night raids. IMO both do the job so it comes down to personal circumstances and preferences. 39TDS
After many decades shooting and many thousand of rabbits I say a bolt action .22 with a moderator is the best for shooting lots of rabbits.. CZ are very good rifles for the money.

Zapp
Another vote for a moderated .22lr. Cheap to use, accurate, quiet and with ammunition widely available. I should think it has probably accounted for more rabbits over the years than all other calibres put together.

ShootingEgg
I have both 22 and 17. And both do the job. 17 even when mod on os loud. Where as 22 is silent or atleast almost.... My 22 has dropped a few in a row where as the 17 due to noise is definately one shot to kill what you are aiming at. But both will serve you well. I agree that the .17 HMR is indeed a noisy rifle even with a mod but I have dropped 5 in a row with the .17 all within 10 yards of each other. Think if dark enough that they dont know what or where the noise is they dont tend to bolt.
