read this sight it will tell you everything about the batteries

Beaten to it!

A lot of the cheap 18650 cells ARE recycled laptop batteries, and do not have the protection circuits that a decent cell has (removed when the laptop battery is stripped down).

Unprotected cells can, and do, go bang if overcharged.

From the net :''Around 7000 individual cells, coded NCR18650A by their supplier Panasonic, are used in each Model S pack. Rated at 3100 mA·h''

Tesla use the above, currently, so must be good. Most rated above 3Ah are to be scrutinised carefully - the capacity can be pushed up by charging to a higher end cell voltage, but the life of the cells are considerably reduced. Generally the more expensive cells from the trusted manufacturers do what it says on the can. Lower quality and 'seconds' go to the re-branders - as well as recovered cells from anywhere and everywhere. Look on u-toob or goggle 18650 and see somd of the fakes that are around. It may not be ****fire that you actually have.....

What is your current drain and how long do these field sessions last? If you are using cells in series there may be one cell pulling down the rest

Fruity,

If you are interested, i had listed some 18650s in the classifieds. They are samsungs and from all of the reviews quite good ones. They don't fit my light and i have found an alternative. I haven't had a chance to relist them.
