fruity
Hi all Any suggestions on a good portable hight seat, plenty online but they don't really give a fold up size ? I've made a couple which work fine for permanently sited seats, but could do with one which ideally goes into the back of my terrano Thanks in advance Edited March 19, 2015 by fruity
steve_b_wales
I have the HSF Summit portable one from Sportsman Guncentre. Priced at just under a £100, it's good and is not too big when disassembled.

Dunkield
I have one on my ground, I am looking for a picture of it to remind me what make it is, From Google images its similar to the Seeland Hercules All I will say is that it folds up to the size of a suitcase and is easy to move and erect alone. My only comment would be that it isn't <that> high, so needs careful placement.
Scully
We have this one. http://www.bushwear.co.uk/stalking-hunting-shooting/highseats/bushwear-panther-folding-highseat.html Very good bit of kit.
mick miller
As above. Good but a little heavy for a long hike. I'd love to see a truly lightweight answer to the problem of portable high seats.

Agreed, it is a bit heavy for one person. Even two of us get a bit tired of carrying it after a while, but we generally stick it in Landy and drive to as near as possible where we hope to erect it. Thanks for the suggestions guys Edited March 19, 2015 by fruity
Dunkield
'Heavy?' Two of us moved this bloody thing the other weekend, the original idea was to dismantle it and stick in a truck. As it was rusted solid we had to carry it across about 4 fields, up and downhill. My god it was knackering, I certainly won't be moving it again in a hurry. Having said that it's an excellent, really high seat, 360 degree shooting angle as well
loriusgarrulus
Get a plastic sledge plenty cheap ones on eBay. Easy to load up and slide to where you want your gear. Slides on grass or soil as well as snow. We have got this one in black for that purpose. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JVL-Adults-Childrens-Kids-Red-Winter-Snow-Sledge-Toboggan-with-Rope-Handle-/200848442509?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2ec380048d
Scully
Will take pic's of another of ours when next up there. It's only portable in the sense we are going to unbolt it, dismantle it from tree and erect it somewhere else.
Dunkield
Yes there is portable as in one person can stick it under their arm and erect it single handed. And portable as is two people can take it down to manageable chunks and carry it, or stick in the back of a truck if it needs to go a bit further. Dunkield
I moved 'my' Bushwear portable seat yesterday, so this is what it looks like up and down as it were.. I carried that about a quarter of a mile on my own with my rifle and sticks etc and then put it up again on my own. So that is mega portable seat, but as you can see not as high as the ladder types. mick miller
And don't be put off by the noise (clicks) when erecting it. I put it up a tree the year before last early one morning, after being told that the noise would scare anything away by someone else, and shot two fallow within half an hour. I wonder if a comfortable frame so it could be carried like a rucksack would help things? I must investigate (I had previously considered fitting it with wheels )

And a guy has started coming with me to learn so he can carry it lol
Dunkield
And don't be put off by the noise (clicks) when erecting it. This is true. The day we moved that massive 360 degree one my mate stayed on to stalk in the evening. We had been got fish and chips and collected our rifles so only go for an hour or so, as he had been so helpful I offered him the choice of the estate to shoot including the moved seat. Due to the disturbance there he elected to sit up somewhere else, I laid up at the opposite end of the same wood. When we we packed up we drove passed the moved seat and there were roe grazing right underneath it I should say fruity it is smaller than it actually looks in the second picture, there is a bit of perspective going on there

rjimmer
Google "telescopic high seat". They are based on those telescopic ladders that you sometimes see on the shopping channels.

Will not fit a tree, only a sapling of phonepole. The add says 5 miutea to set up. Yer, sure. Once you spend 20 minutes putting the seat togething. First time out and it sank 10" and the rubber feet stayed in holes. Had to dig the beggers out. Ladder support, swings in the wind. Spent to many hours replacing bolts and machining parts to get it usable.
Dannyboy220
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_4OdZS2jdjg Not practical for our British trees I know but saw a guy in America on a boar hunting programme that was on sky and he shimmied up a tree very quickly. Thought it looked the nuts.

mick miller
The bush wear ones are good, well made and can (almost) withstand a handful of bloody horses using them as a back scratch (thanks for letting me know you'd put all your polo ponies into that field if you're reading this Jeff ).
