sako751sg
I had to get some done for mine and our local booth has a passport pic option.5 for a fiver. When signing the application, make sure you keep your sig right inside the box. They have refused mine twice already for this reason. Not too easy when the box is smallish. PhilR
Got my photos done in booth. It did checks to ensure my eyes were in the right position and I needed to adjust the seat to get it correct. Turnaround time for renewal was a week. shoot and be safe
Try local post office. +1 most of the main ones will take the photo for you and check over your application. It cost around £5 last time I had my passport renewed which isn't to bad considering the photo booths want that just for your photo.
loriusgarrulus
I had my photo driving licence done at the post office this year. They checked the paperwork for me. After the photo was taken that even showed me the photo on the computer screen to make sure I was happy with it. They sent everything off electronically to DVLC. All for £4 more than the licence renewal. As most photo booths are at least £5 it was very good value.

Imperfection
Got my photos done in booth. Its not as if one could slip down your face onto your chin and you're always looking forward to read the screen.
PhilR
There's a template on screen that shows the head position required with a line across to level your eyes with. Eyes too high or low in relation to the template means the photos will be bounced by the Passport Office.
Carman06
I did mine at home with photo booth app on computer. Had no issues with it.
