A few shots from Suffolk

Paid a visit to Lackford Lakes reserve near Bury St. Edmunds yesterday in the hope of catching a glimpse of the Kingfishers that reside there. Unfortunately we only caught a quick flash of blue over one of the lakes...far too quick for a shot.

We had a good day but the high winds made taking some shots quite tricky.

Here's a few from the day, hope you enjoy them.

stunning pictures, may i ask what camera you are using

I was using a Pentax K-50 with a Sigma 150 - 500mm lens. I find the Pentax a very capable camera though often overlooked in favour of the big two, Canon and Nikon.

Did you use a filter for the pheasant?

The colours are superb.

I didn't use a filter, the colours are pretty much how they were straight from the camera, I reduced the contrast a little and reduced the exposure by a fraction. The only other thing I did was blur the grass a tad more in the foreground as it was a bit distracting.

I try not to do too much post production with wildlife shots and try to keep the subject as natural as possible.

Your pictures have inspired me to get out this weekend with my camera.

Thanks!

Good stuff. :good:

I've just been playing with a pic of a Little Owl I took a few days ago. It was a bit uninspiring to be honest, the light was poor and it was all a bit 'brown'.

The result...

I don't think I've ever used it on a tripod, I generally go for birds in flight so find it easier to hand hold and with the high shutter speeds used camera shake isn't a problem. With static shots like the ones on this topic I use a slower shutter speed but tend to just brace myself and use some form of natural support like a tree.
