Marksman1997
For shooting crows what shot size should i use and what choke size? Also what choke do you want to fire first? Does it make a difference on which barrel you fire first? Top or Bottom? (i have o/u) Thanks in advance!

Thanks Neil sounds good! I was using 3/4 and full choke and just found it very hard to hit anything. And then usually when i did hit it blew it to pieces . I shot the wing clean off on a close shot the other day!
ChrisAsh
If you are shooting long range say 50 plus metres or a crack shot then full choke is fine, most other shots will be fine with half and half or less ideal for non crack shot shooters I understand most common size would be no6 shot or no5 for larger birds, many shot with no7.5 a good all round shot for clays and close birds Edited April 25, 2015 by ChrisAsh
bruno22rf
Soooo many variations prevent any correct answers-but not many crows will walk away from 28g load of 7.5's if the range is right-I would say, however, that if you need bigger than 6 shot and more than 1/2 choke then your fieldcraft needs fine tuning and not your hardware As for which tube first- I usually keep the bottom barrel fitted with the more open choke so if the birds are coming towards me I would use top barrel first followed by bottom barrel as they panic and turn as they are still approaching-if they are flying away then its bottom barrel first. motty
Believe me, 7.5 will kill a long way. Crows are not as hard to kill as some folk think.

chris1961
The best cartridge for pigeons and crows is the Cheapest you can get quarter and half choke as said 28gram will do the business cheap clay carts are fine up to 30 yards why waste money on overkill carts a dead crow is the same shot with 36gram no5 or 28gram 7.5 it's still dead simples
chris1961
The best cartridge for. Crows and pigeons I find is cheapest clay Carts you can lay you're hands on28 gram 7.5 will do the job nicely quarter and half choke at around 30 yards drops them perfectly good a dead crow is dead if shot with 36 gram no 5s or 28grams7.5 .It's still dead don't worry about it just enjoy shooting them simples
Guest cookoff013
my 5-4 recommendation is basically a no nonsense game load. anywhere upto 70 yards is game. if you were to say yo`d be limited to the cheapest then 21g #7.5 would be it and there is a huge difference between a 36g #5 and 21g 7.5. overkill carts are not overkill, they are efficient at distance. why limit yourself to 30 yards? airguns shoot further than that!, and pellets are cheaper ! distance is not the key, but having the ability to be absolutely sure with those cartridges, is a different matter all together. the biggest bug i have is if you shoot what is cheapest, and through 1/4 and 1/2 only then thats a pretty limiting setup. thats almost a clay shooting setup. it wouldnt suprise me is 50% of the people here have never fired a shell above 28grams. i`ve used 36g #4 and #2 on game, and i love them. chris1961
I shoot many different cartridge loads my favourite cart was Kent velocity 30gram no6 sadly no longer made I've shot crows with gamebore velocity 28gr no 7.5 I wasn't dissing big loads every cart has its uses nothing finer than taking a crow down with a 36gram load at 70 yards from his description he sounds like a newby so keep it simple learn to take them down at short distance when more experience is gained start shooting at greater distance with heavier loads nothing worst than winged birds
