Various ways you can do this, reason I did it was so I can use my NV's without having to wear my reading glasses the eye piece has a 2.8 diopter that focus on the screen as if I am wearing my reading glasses with the added bonus of no reflection of the screen as my eye is pushed up tight on the eyepiece. If I use just a normal screen I have to put my readers on to take the shot, but with the eye piece and the diopter I can see the cross hair without the aid of my glasses.Effectivly it's like having one of the lenses from my reading glasses fixed into the eye piece if that makes sense.

The small one with the red ring on has a focusable diopter just behind the red ring.

The long one is a fixed diopter as its set just the right distance from the screen & shooting with this is brilliant & the Photon XT I bought simple can't get touch it for clarity or distance.

I think Fruity went down the same lines but I think his eyes are ok LOL, so I think he took the diopter out.

Yes my eyes are good Dave had lazer surgery on them years ago :)

I put a 3.5" screen on mine but still found the glare was a bit much for me even with the screen on lowest brightness settings and find this works just right

IMPORTANT

Battery's I would stay clear of the really cheap stuff & get genuine Panasonics or Torchy boys. The IR is your choice from T20's to the NM800 (my choice). I have just however received a T50 from night scout that fine for the monies.

****Regarding batteries, please note, that if using the cheap battery carrier, you need batteries with the button top not the lat top****

thanks for the offer, but I'd already been busy on the screwfix site

None of my scopes fit into the tube gentle. The Hawke on my LR is an extremely tight the Bushnell will need some fettling.

My MTC is wayyyyy too tight and 2 tubes may be needed (with some serious Dremmell and heat gun application.)

Humph

The 40mm silicone tube has plenty of 3rd and fits a hawks 40mm ocular nice and right so you get no movement Hawke scopes is what we used to use.We used to keep a small tube of washing up liquid in the bus and a little bit on the finger and tubes on the mouth of the tube made it skip on easy

Finding if difficult to resist making smutty comments!

The 40mm tube fits on my Panorama snugly, but won't look at my HD sport.

I reckon if I split the tube and cut a keyhole the Bushnell will work, but the MTC is going to take some serious thinking about.

I reckon another tube, spit and keyholes, then clamped, with a standard 40mm slipping inside.

A humungous amount of generous help on here for NV Add-on's. But I would like to build my own NV spotter and I am thoroughly confused (not being techie minded) from this and other NV threads as to what bits and bobs are for add-ons and what are for Spotters.

Could some kind soul separate things out for me and let me have a NV spotter only parts list and wiring info please? Thanks.

PS I do have an add-on made for me by Pete at Nightvision UK but would now like to dabble on my own.

The only real differences between a spotter and an add-on unit are the lens in front of the camera and the fact that you don't need an scope mount.

An add-on usually has a moderately wide to 'standard' lens, usually 16 mm, but a spotter should have a lens around 50 mm. Also, as a spotter hasn't got a scope in front, and as you can fit bigger and better lenses to it, it will generally be much more sensitive to infrared and ambient light, meaning you don't need to throw as much illumination at the quarry (sometimes you don't need illumination at all.

I don't have a wiring diagram but I'll see if I can jot something down that could help.....

Here you go:

It's a very simple set up. All you need to do is fit it all in a handy sized project box and work out what lens to use; an old camera lens (M42 mount) or a c-mount lens, and get the appropriate mount that gets the back of the lens the right distance from the sensor (c-mount is 17.5 mm and M42 is about 45 mm). Dave G has M42 to C-mount adapters that fit straight onto the E700 I believe, so speak to him as that may save you lots for hard work!

Hi Bob, without typing out a huge amount of text - or copy pasting from somewhere else it might be prudent if I just link to the relevant posts on the NVF - which you have to join to read. If you have a 50mm SLR camera lens laying about you might consider the first link as SLR lenses generally provide a slightly better image from their big expensive lenses. Also ideal if you are likely to want an longer lens at any time for watching over a bait station.

This next one is for C mount TV lenses. Cheaper but still provide a good image - also allows you to swap to a shorter lens with a wider field of view for pure rabbiting or maybe ratting.

Hope this helps - ask any Q's as needed

Will 2 batteries be enough? The camera runs at 12v - or am I missing a trick?
