Redditch
12v 1.2ah is the absolute minimum, but doesn't last long. I would advise going for a 12v 7ah as they aren't that much more expensive, but will run a flapper (or two) all day

Jim Neal
You need what they call a "sealed battery". The more "Amp hours" or AH the rating, the longer it will power the device. As suggested above, around the 7 mark should do a long old session. Locally, if you've got a Screwfix or Toolstation nearby they should be competitive on price, but alos don't forget these batteries are used in wheelchairs and mobility scooters so you should have some mobility shops nearby too. lakeside1000
Ive had 2 x 5 ah and 2 x 7 ah for just over 12 months from ebay, both 5's and one of the 7's have failed, they will not accept a charge and get very hot when attempting to charge, all 4 of my chargers are .5 amp also from ebay, they put out 22 volts at 500 mah, but sadly 2 of these have also failed, overheating and burnt out, you get what you pay for, dont go cheap like me, go quality, When new the 5 amp would run my turbo flapper for about 3 hours and the 7's would run for around 5 hours, on the magnet (bigger motor) the 7 would only go for around 2.5 to 3 when new and fully charged. All the batteries have been run to flat at least twice a week right through the year and get left on trickle charge almost continuously ,I dont know if thats good or bad , just kept forgetting to check them. its an age thing, I would say 7 minimum for a flapper and at least 12 for a magnet,
fenboy
£25 from moreton alarms peter , 12v 12mah bud, runs mine for more than a full session and its only small Some mate you are evo. One of these will run a turbo flapper with a timer all day long and then some , they are also nice and light to carry. Yuasa is perhaps the best of brands too. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NP3-2-12-3-2Ah-12v-Yuasa-Lead-Acid-Rechargeable-Battery-/161710719800?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item25a6b5c338
