ozzy518
Back in February last year I bought a Remington 887 pump gun from a very well known gunshop in Kent. I sent the usual email notification to licensing including the addition of a Beretta 686s that I bought a day later. Fast forward to last week. I part exed the Remington at my local RFD against a Beretta 692. Another notification by email was sent. I have just received a call about the Remington. Apparently the have no record of it whatsoever, claim to have had no record of its existance from either me or the gunshop in Kent. Fortunately I keep all copies of emails to licensing including thier received confirmations. Guy I spoke to said it weren't a problem , but more worryingly said this kind of thing happens all the time !

Scully
The number of guns being exchanged, sold and bought, it doesn't surprise me some go 'missing'. Although it most definitely shouldn't happen, people are human beings no matter what capacity they work in, and mistakes do happen. I remember some licensing employee simply filing stuff in the bin when things got on top of her in the South Yorkshire (?) licensing area a couple of years ago. I am shortly buying two shotguns from a friend, and selling him one in return (when he gets his tickets back) which I will have to inform licensing about, but within a week of that will be selling them on, plus some of my own, and buying another. Will be keeping all copies of paperwork relevant to transactions and informing licensing very safe for that one!

steve_b_wales
Well done for keeping everything! +1. If I send anything to the police, it's sent by recorded delivery, and I include a note to ask them to acknowledge the letter by sending me an email, which they have always done. This is printed off and kept alongside a copy of the letter/document sent to them. James1983
Not sure why they couldn't email back confirming they have received the email and updated their records. Would take all of 1 minute if they had a standard paragraphs they could use in a reply email. I've only just got my SGC in May this year and my FAO advised me to email and save a copy of the email on my PC and also print a copy off and keep it safe. I have a printed copy in my SGC wallet. safc1973
I always email surrey police and get an automated reply as below:- 'Thank you for your email, this will receive the relevant attention/response required. If you are notifying us of an acquisition or disposal of weapon/s please accept this email as an acknowledgement of receipt. If you require an application form or other related information please visit our website' I also print off & keep a copy of this and my email to them. TIGHTCHOKE
I sold a barrel to a chap from PW who lived in Suffolk. I notified Cambs Police by Email and cleary stated BARREL ONLY. About a year later after a reprint of my licence the whole gun had dropped off. Sent a text to my FEO who appologised and requested I contact Head Office and request a correct reprint! They blamed Suffolk Firearms Licencing for taking the whole gun off!!!!!!! It is far too easy to simply accept that mistakes are made and everything will be alright. We should be able to expect a better service from our LICENCING AUTHORITY? Edited July 3, 2015 by TIGHTCHOKE
