lakeside1000
This year was the first year I have shot over peas, to say disappointed would be an understatement, for some weeks I have sat beside and even amongst the peas with very poor results, birds have been few and far between, best day was just 12 , with many visits only producing 3 or 4 birds, no I didn't miss them all, they just didn't come. So Sunday I got word they were harvesting , Monday morning van full of gear I set off , weather forcast was poor, with very good chance of rain. There were a few birds on the field when I arrived so hopes were high, but after several very slow wet hours , I had 4 pigeons and 1 jackdaw to show for just 7 shots, To make things worse I left my flask of coffee on the kitchen table, and spent over an hour cleaning the mud off my kit whist suffering an ear bashing from the missus for getting mud on her clean floor, I could have been out on a very productive farm knocking them off over standing wheat, or just sitting in front of the telly, Its times like these that make me ask WHY WHY WHY ?? Then I remember how much I love this sport.

motty
Well, you certainly are keen. To keep going out for single figure scores shows that.
Whitebridges
If it was easy we'd get bored very quickly wouldn't we?
ditchman
as you say...............i have seen pigeons going on wheat this year more so than any year previous.............i go past fields of peas every day and rarely see a bird drop into them................ WelshMike
I think there are times where we think "why do we do this" but as you say its because we love it. I have had a few early mornings on the crows lately with no decent results which frustrates me...briefly...and then back to it. My wife thinks I need some sort of "help" but I cant find a local branch of Shooters Anonymous.
lakeside1000
My wife thinks I am certifiably insane, but there is something about the peace and quiet of sitting in the hide, I did try fishing but the family all decided they liked it as well so now I go shooting, no one so far has asked to join me, shame !! Hey Motty, I was just looking at your 'career scores, pretty impressive, I think all my birds must have been on holiday for the last few years around kings lynn, I never even see those numbers out on the east coast of Norfolk, best so far in the last 5 years has been 44 just outside Great Yarmouth, if you ever want someone to help you carry all those dead birds back to your truck give me a shout, I will bring a wheel barrow. Anyway at my age I couldn't stand the excitement of actually seeing or shooting large numbers , it would be too much for the old ticker. Good response...not always about numbers but those who dont shoot many (like myself) always say that dont we
