ditchman
as you are using co2 and you have a mini mig id go 0.6 as you say you are on nearly max amps so it will take less amps to melt the wire off. so you can turn the wire feed up but also the wire feed *** in the small units sometimes acts a a fine amps switch dont know the unit VIKING has......can it do aluminium you rekon ? Paul223
as you are using co2 and you have a mini mig id go 0.6 as you say you are on nearly max amps so it will take less amps to melt the wire off. so you can turn the wire feed up but also the wire feed *** in the small units sometimes acts a a fine amps switch I have two migs, a larger industrial mig and a smaller mini mig, not that different from the one Viking is using, the mini mig will run the 0.8 wire no problem and in my experience trying to use 0.6 once you've been using 0.8 for a while is frustrating, 0.6 by comparison is more difficult to weld with because it doesn't carry the current as well and because you need to have the wire speed high to add filler material more quickly Try it! 0.6 runs out ability to carry the amperage / penetration after about 18 gauge /1.2 mm 0.8 at about 10 gauge / 3mm Both will weld down to 24 gauge clean (rusty is a different matter, and like I said if you can't weld it with 0.8 there's nothing left worth welding). Paul223
dont know the unit VIKING has......can it do aluminium you rekon ? Not well enough to do anything that's worth doing, not enough finesse for light stuff and not suitable for heavy stuff
fruitloop
dont know the unit VIKING has......can it do aluminium you rekon ? No not enough amps and you need ether pure argon or helium or a mix. I have got a ac/dc 200 amp tig for alli

Jaymo
Only prob with airtools for continuous application is the tank size otherwise you have to stop whilst pressure builds again. Have that prob as only a 100l 2hp compressor

viking
i had mine in the vice as you suggested a while back but didnt want to tighten it to tight so got one of the plastic ties and got it so i could slide it over the trigger on the drill, then realised today it had a button on it to keep it on without squeezing the trigger, yes thats all i need really a cheep and cheerful one, plus i can hardly put it in the vice then pick my engine up to wire brush it,
