Fuji Shooter
I know how you feel on the riveting, checker plated the rear tub in the 90 the other week and second go got my thumb in the way of the handle and stop. Looked like a scene from a slash film. Ended up taking it to my mate who has a windy popper. Those large rivets are a nightmare by hand. Lucky with the van though mate, result from plod
Jaymo
Brilliant Was going to mention an Air Rivetter-- you will never go back to a lever version again. Looking good and boy were you lucky with the van too

Jaymo
You should have bought one of these rather than a camera. These are great but can still slip n ruin your lovely shiny paintwork- air Jobbie some much easier.....
Gordon R
You missed out - I gave away one of those Lazy Tongs riveters recently - had too many.
Fuji Shooter
How was the original factory riveting done as my tub has all domed rivets, one of the reasons I had it cold galved rather than take it off.
viking
rivets a rivet to me You missed out - I gave away one of those Lazy Tongs riveters recently - had too many. in that case gordon you will just have to buy new a new air rivet gun then hope your name is actually Gordon These are great but can still slip n ruin your lovely shiny paintwork- air Jobbie some much easier..... nearly had a few slips myself, dont know how i got away with no scratches really, thats why i stopped
Gordon R
I still have a set of Lazy Tongs - just found another in a roll cab - didn't need more than one - so got rid.
Paul223
This for the money is a bargain, I bought one 17 years ago still going strong many many thousands of rivets later. https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/cat73-air-hydraulic-riveter/ Had / have a set of punches somewhere to do the original dome rivets Edited August 10, 2016 by Paul223

viking
No idea what they are mate. Just using the ones that came in the new nut and bolt/ body fixing kit fron LR fasteners.
Paul223
Looking from the inside of those panels do those rivet ends have a hole and through the hole there's a ball looking shape?
viking
im with you now, no there not closed then, there as you described, are they wrong?
Paul223
Well not wrong as such but they may leak, might be better to use sealed on the rest and then you can change if you have problems. Also in the past I've seen sealed rivets of just the right length (as short as possible whilst still correct length to work) used but inserted the other way around, you could try some on a two pieces of scrap sheet of about the right thickness, you may decide this gives a better finish
Paul223
Other possible problem would be the mandrill going rusty spoiling that nice clean look your creating So I'd either go stainless sealed or sealed other way through if capings allow
viking
first job today was go out and buy a air rivet gun
viking
then the plan was to put it to use, put the rest of the cappings on in no time and hassle free
viking
.and before anyone mentions it, the inside of the rear tub didnt get painted because the though it wasnt getting done as i was carpeting it all, i couldnt be bothered to wait for it to be done so its as is, and wont be seen anyway, not ideal but there you go all the brakes bled and in working order .
