Foxing on rape

Had a call to say my first rape field had been cut.....so went straight from work at ten and found myself creeping into the field to the sound of someone calling in the distance suspect they were in next doors fields but no sign of lamps flashing round.

Anyhow soon as I had a flick with the lamp it stopped and I never heard it again. Maybe someone poaching? Dunno they didn't seem to hang around.

So first flick with the lamp and there's a set of eyes 350yrds or so up the field so rested the rifle off the pickup and got hand calling. It came flying down the field and stopped about 150 yards.****** must of smelt me as it had wind advantage. It turned sideways but was too late. 50gr noslers are too fast for you.

Dropped on the spot.

Gave it ten mins before retrieving it and while walking out to pick it a second turned up in the same spot.

Tried calling but to no avail suspect it could smell me as the wind had picked up and were blowing straight at it.

Anyhow tried walking toward sit but it ******** of way before I got close enough.

Saw 2 others in the same area but not safe shots. So called it a day one last flash before driving out and there was one by the farm so gun out again and set up called and it run across the field to the base of a pylon about 100 yards away. It stopped long enough to squeeze the trigger on it and two were down

They wasn't on mine but suspect they knew the foxs were and they were trying to call them over the boundary....it went very quite as soon as my .22-250 barked at the first fox.... Definite hand call and they were close few hundred yards maybe

Was it near my bit ? Just wondered because I havnt seen any rape over there.

I recon as it went all quiet they shouldn't have been there.

I suspect the same they shouldn't of been there or they knew the foxs were on mine and tried to call them over.

Not near yours that's not cut yet

Well done Sparkie. I have now adopted not picking up until I have finished for the night. Leave on lying and another one comes being the theory.

Worked two nights ago for me. Shot one, left it, came back around two hours later and got the other one too.

Why you not into NV yet?

That shouting was probably Dougie having found another one on the top of a hedge...

That'll probably be a long wait.

I found a scope on another forum. Nightforce 5 - 20 x 56. Nearly new. More than I wanted to pay but it is a good piece of kit. Has enhanced my Ward - D - Vision NV by at least 50%. Had four charlies with it this week.

Very good as a normal day scope. I am pleased with it. Thanks for your input.

Grandalf.

6 down this week to the fox reaper lol

another top result Sparkie, ive never shot foxes on rape stubble, some times the stubble can be very high,i hear the bullet can explode before it hits,i take it this is true as ive had one or two over the years explode in rushes with a loud ripping noise...

never really had a issue with the stubble.

Gives us a huge problem in East Anglia. There are vast areas of rape and all the charlies move in there once the leaves are sufficient to keep the cubs dry. It becomes their home. Then a nasty man with a big machine comes along and takes the roof off the house. The charlies stay in the stubble for a long time. With long stalks it becomes a nightmare to get a clear shot. Our fields are huge - 200+ acres are the norm in my area - Some much larger. A high seat helps but it is still not easy.
