lakeside1000
Nothing planned for the day, the phone rang,It was Marsh Man with an invite to go shoot some pigeons, missus gave me the green light so off I went, on the marshes near Great Yarmouth birds were everywhere, Marsh Man led the way to some rape stubble at the side of a small wood, we set up about 1.30 and the birds came in steadily all afternoon, finishing with 31 for me and 33 for Marsh Man, very nice afternoon well worth the visit, many thanks to Marsh man for the memorable afternoon, always nice to have good company for an afternoons shooting,
JDog
I would have enjoyed listening to the two of you bantering away in the Norfolk burr.

marsh man
I would have enjoyed listening to the two of you bantering away in the Norfolk burr. It was a bit like looking at two of the cast from The Last Of The Summer Wine ,and with a combined age of getting towards 140 we were like each others carers . With the low cloud , humid conditions and the threat of heavy rain we didn't want to go to far on the exposed marshes so we went where I could drive up close to where we set up in case we had to make a hasty retreat. If you wanted the pigeons to commit in tex book fashion, then I am afraid today wasn't going to be one of those days , the best you could hope for was to try and get them in range for a good sporting shot . I am not saying we didn't get the odd one come to decoys because we did and most of them paid the price , but a lot were weighing up the set up first and it was these ones and one or two that were carrying on there way with out looking at the decoys that were giving us the shots we were taking and I must admit Alan was shooting better than the last time we went out together , pulling out several good overhead shots . The same thing happened last year on the rape stubble when after a hour of setting up the Caterpillar came on to pull the ground up , this time he came on with the plough , went round the headland , see us there and when he came pass told me to stay where we are and he will go and plough some wheat stubble , now how considerate is that ......Top bloke So the afternoon came to end and with Alan getting one with his last shot I went to tell him we will call it a day , while we stood there in the open one came pass in range so I done the decent thing and shot it resulting in getting one with my last shot as well. All in all a nice afternoon out and I don't think I am ready to sit at home with my slippers on just yet . Mind you I haven't got any slippers
marsh man
Sounds like an enjoyable afternoon. Yes it was P C. When are we having the pleasure to reading your accounts of you and your good friend trying to reduce the pigeon population in the Birmingham area again ? Seem as if your been gone a fair while now . Hearing shot to pieces through shooting without ear defenders in our youth. The only time we can hear each other is with defenders set on maximum volume. Without that, the conversation goes something llike -: Windy isn't it ? No it's not it's Thursday. So am I, let's go for a beer.

Strangely enough I have never used ear defenders , and as luck would have it I can still hear duck whistle when I am down the marsh on a winters night. I am not saying my hearing is any good as when I went to the hospital for a hearing test the nurse, or who ever she was , called my name out for 20 minutes before the person next to me asked if it was me she was calling
lakeside1000
My hearing is fine as well but funny thing is I cant hear the wife when she calls, she reckons ive got selective hearing, is that a medical condition?
