flippermaj
Hi there, Looking for some feedback on this type of gun. Love my aya but it's only 2.75 chambers, fed up with my semi being fussy on 3.5 inch carts so looking at getting a gun mark kestrel magnum choked half and half. I know it's not steel proofed but there seem to be plenty of folk who run 3 inch steel through non steel proofed guns. A different story but I was next to a guy on the foreshore with an old sxs and asked what carts he was using, he produced some 3 inch express carts, I then pointed out to him his gun was only chambered for 2.75 inch !!! He and the gun had survived!. I know anser2 tried using a new aya mag but ruined it, Any feedback on the kestrel appreciated. Thanks Mark
kent
It's possible but extremely stupid and dangerous. Of course it's sometimes possible to lengthen the chamber and send a gun for re- proof in steel If proof excepted older guns for steel proof in the unaltered 3" magnums I might bet most in good condition might pass
Albert 888
Why not just use 3" in the auto.
flippermaj
I could use 3 inch in the auto but i prefer SXS! Cheers
edenman
I have a kestrel that is 3" and choked 1/2 and 1/2 and I've put steel through it no problems, action is as tight as the day it came from factory - only trouble being I can't get on with sxs which is a pity as it is a great fowling gun. Two barrels, two triggers what could wrong. My mate also owns one and rates it highly to.

Nothing much wrong with them
Albert 888
Yilditz do a 3 1/2" magnum sxs with multi chokes and it's steel proof.
flippermaj
Albert 888, I looked at the 3.5 inch Yilditz but it's a beast and I am aiming for one gun for everything and dont think the weight of the Yilditz would be too handy in a pigeon hide or roost shoot. Edenman, what carts does your mate use for geese through the Kestrel? Thanks Mark
edenman
Same as me 3" home loads, factory stuff like gamebore etc
Saltings
Had a Zabala 3 1/2" s/s ne steel magnum proof for a few years shot just about everything with it inc. clays, simple and reliable
kent
If your going to shoot heavy steel goose loads in a 3" without a fairly heavy magnum best of luck. Not something I should want to do. In fact I am going to add some lead to the butt of onevof my own magnum sxs guns

Penelope
They do a 3" steel proofed magnum, a mate has one although I have not seen it in the flesh. ratty1
The Yilditz I have is supposed to be 8lb, it feels like a 6lb gun especially with 3 1/2 carts, I like it.

ratty1
I shall weigh it when I get home, it was advertised at 8lb, feels lighter than my game gun.
ratty1
Yilditz weighed in at 5lb 3 oz, no wonder it kicks.

flippermaj
Hi Ratty, Are you certain on that weight, thats the weight of a 20 bore!!! Seems mega light for a 3.5 inch 12 Bore? Cheers Mark
ratty1
Fairly certain, used my digital fishing scales, might be ounce or so adrift but nothing major. It's stupidly light really, very punishing.
