islandgun
meet guss, Im new to gundogs so looking for advice, he's about 12 weeks with plenty of ftc in his lineage, has anyone any advice they would like to share concerning day to day puppy rearing, such as recommended foods, books, insurance, training do's and donts, in fact any advice you might have, cheers IG
fenboy
He is a smart looking fellow. One of the best books is still training spaniels by Joe Irving . Hunting comes pretty naturally to spaniels so concentrate any early games / play around retrieving but not to the point he gets bored with it . Good luck

ShootingEgg
From my experience (my spaniel has just turned 1yr) I would let him be a pup for 6 months or so, play fetch like games with him (NOT tug, will make him.hard mouthed ). Teach sit, and recall. But let the little guy be a pup..

ditchman
you will find out for yourself as how to train him................the only 2 things i would advise on is no tugs of war and constant chewy toys when its feeding time...use the recall whistle to call him to food the rest is reading up and learning to think like a dog....the training is a 2 way operation...train yourself and the dog nice looking dog...............and i bet it will have a great home.........
