JDog
There are not many oak trees in this area. Those that there are have a decent amount of acorns on them. This morning driving down off the Wolds every oak tree had pigeons underneath following the strong winds yesterday with scattered acorns everywhere. This post, formulated this morning was to be about acorns. It is not that anymore. Work was finished by 1pm and a mad dash to the gun shop saw me with some more cartridges. In the absence of Hull Superfasts I have bought some Hull Imperial Game which is what I have usually used for game shooting. Back home by 2pm, dogs in the car for the one mile trip to the flight line. I only stayed half an hour as I did not want to spoil future fun on a longer outing. The eight pigeons I shot were crammed full of barley from an old stubble. This is where everyone should be looking if there are stubbles left unploughed in their area. aga man
A useful post, they are certainly finding plenty of it there! 'Imperial game' sounds expensive.
pigeon controller
Good to see you getting out , we have shot our local stubbles for the past five weeks. We left them last week for the cut maize and growing wheat/ flightline. The only trouble with this warm weather is that the fallen seeds acorns and stubbles will start to rot/ ferment. We will keep a look out .
bluesj
I've see a few on some barley stubble, not hundreds but enough to make a good day but alas no longer able to shoot over it. and they aren't interested in the self sown peas or rape forage that i can shoot over
sitsinhedges
All the pigeons I've shot this week have been stuffed to bursting largely with Haw berries and the odd bit of wheat. I did see a good number on sprouting wheat drillings when I was out on an errand the other day, must have been something else amongst it.
