Old Boggy
I tend to agree with Charles P that 1912 is the date recorded by Graham Greener and would have thought him to get it right. This is also confirmed by Nigel Brown's book which states 1912/13.
dougall
I tend to agree with Charles P that 1912 is the date recorded by Graham Greener and would have thought him to get it right. This is also confirmed by Nigel Brown's book which states 1912/13. +1 Nigel Brown lists all the record/serial numbers and I read it as late 1912 early 1913...so just call it 100 yrs old and you aint wrong!...they were as well made then as any time so shooting a bit of history and indeed now an antique. Gunman
Numbers although the most accurate way of dating can not always be exactly accurate .They do not take into consideration date of sale or date of completion only the date they were entered into the makers records . As I understand it Greener numbered a gun after it had been proofed , so the date recorded would be close to its date of manufacture ,.Taking this into account it was not the date of sale or in fact date of completion which could have been several years later . A good example of this is a Greener hammer gun barreled action that had a recorded , by its number , date of 1913 was not finished until the mid 1980's,so how old is that gun ? During my time at Webley's I had the job of sorting out several guns that had been taken out of the production line for one reason or another and had been standing for some years ,so again the number would not match the date of sale . rayhallam
I wasn;t asking the date of sale just when it was made ray

rayhallam
hi every one, had a reply from graham greener apparently my gun is an empire plain as he termed it and it was started on the 26th November 1912 and completed on the 10th January 1914 there was nothing else recordered in the log. very good of him to give me this information and also attached some sales literature for the gun. very interesting. thank you all for steering me in the right direction regards ray Edited November 17, 2015 by rayhallam
