winnie&bezza
Looking great so far, I'm looking forward to seeing the end result. Cheers Falcon and I can't wait either and just hope I get there. I'm happy with it at the moment considering I'm a stock virgin.

oowee
Fantastic. Every pic looks better. I was wondering how you start such a project. I guess its a router to start but how do you get the elipse for the thumb hole. Are you taking orders?
LewisR10
Top work mate, I've been meaning to strip and re-oil the stock on my .410 for over a year, but haven't due to being worried about messing it up, but this puts it in perspective. You have some serious skill, I'm looking forwards to seeing this progress

winnie&bezza
Thanks for all kind words and I'll be straight. I've never made a stock before and literally making up how to do it as I go along.I am working from pics of a fellow called Geordie who makes stocks and post pics on air arms owners forum so I'm just copying him. I'm no expert and am just a carpenter that fancied making one in my limited spare time. Well oowee I just routered out the action housing from measurements of my old s400 beech stock and then worked from there. I drew round the inside of the trigger guard of the gun and routered it out free hand and kept plunging till it went all the way through. Thumbhole I routered out free hand again and went by the pics online to get the rough position and just kept feeling it til it was where I wanted it to be. A lot of free hand routering for most of it and I bought some Japanese carving files which are brilliant and are making shaping really easy. Orders!! Blimey wasn't even thinking of that and I've still got to learn more til I ask people for money and am confident enough. Cheers. winnie&bezza
Had a good few hours this evening doing some shaping on grip, finger grooves and rounding of fore grip. All hand filing and hand feels a bit sore but is enjoyable watching it come to life. Still has rough edges to be smoothed out but getting the feel for I now. Cheers. team tractor
Ok I'm a little jealous now that I've not started mine. That looks top dollar
winnie&bezza
Haha better get started then. Well maybe top dime at the moment but I'm pleased with how it's gone so far and I've surprised myself I must admit. I want to put a black wood cap on the underneath of the grip so as a wood expert like yourself what would you use? And would you just glue it on? Cheers. team tractor
Wenge is the darkest timber or walnut like your using. I'd just glue it in with polyurethane glue. If I had any wenge I'd send some to you
team tractor
I have ash, oak, sapele, iroke a small amount of beech I think
winnie&bezza
That would be a kind offer and thanks but no worries. I might as well just use the walnut then. When you see the bottom of grips and some have that black 3-4mm cap at the bottom and then maybe a white line as well, has that just been stained with black and white? So maybe I should just stain a strip at the bottom.
FalconFN
I thinks it's usually rosewood or ebony.
winnie&bezza
Yeah I was thinking of using ebony. Cheers.
