andrew f
Got a call Friday morning from my local perm saying they have lost lambs during the night and seen foxes during the day in around the ewes could I pop out and sort them out. So I arranged it for the weekend rocked up sent a text saying I am out loaded up the rifle grabbed the ICOtec and trigger sticks and set off towards the lambing field. Got to the first gate and turned the caller on and started with vixen in heat waited for a few minutes had a shine around the field to see a pair of eyes steaming towards me chambered a round looking down the scope could see a nice fox coming in hot checked the no ewes or lambs are in the backdrop gave him a oi and he stopped right in a low spot not a fan of headshots but needs must and the 308 broke the silence of the night and the first fox was down. Went to collect the fallen waited 10 minutes and started playing Best fox call SS didn't see anything for nearly 30 minutes last shine before moving on got a shine of eyes out beyond my capable range lamp off gave it a 5 minutes and shined again this time they are in range rifle on the gate post fox was stood by a telegraph pole which I have paced out from the gate way which is 180 yards away checked the back stop for sheep all clear one more down dragged them down into the yard to the bonfire quick photo session off I went again. Moved into the valley were the ewes aren't in the way put the caller out at 50 yards and started playing vixen in heat lamped the field and saw a pair of eyes in the bog checked to see if it was Charlie hiding in the thick stuff all I could see was its head left the caller going stalked down to the bog within 80 yards rifle on sticks lamp on still there squeezed the trigger one more down now the fun part trying not to sink up to you're nuts in the bog avoided wet feet and nuts quick photo. Back to the caller setup again waited for a hour and saw nothing back to the yard dragging Charlie with me left a note in the office and went home. Got a call from the farmers wife saying thank you and there's a bottle of sloe gin in the office for you. happy days Edited February 14, 2016 by andrew f
